Head unit install - new aerial?

Featured Replies

I've installed an Alpine ILX-702d head unit into my 2012 Skoda Fabia Wagon

I am in Australia

The head unit comes with digital radio and GPS, however as far as i can tell the aerial on the car is AM/FM only. I would like to replace the existing antenna with a new one that supports GPS/Digital radio, I don't want to use the windscreen antenna as I want to keep a 'clean' look. I've seen this forum talk about part 6R0035501D as a suitable replacement antenna, but I can't find any second hand aerials in Australia, they all seem to be part 6R0035501C, which doesn't include a digital antenna. Can anyone advise of which VW models will have the antenna I'm after? I'm trying to avoid paying $200 and getting one from Europe.

Also, the fabia has a microphone that I think is connected to the MFD system. Is there any way I can hook this up to the head unit using a 3.5mm jack?

Thanks UrbanPanzer

I've been to a few car scrap yards and I can only seem to find aerials without a digital antenna - do you know if there's any specific models which have DAB, or is it likely to be non-model specific?

The microphone looks good, i'll likely buy one of them if I can't work out a way to use the existing one

Just another bump

I'd hugely appreciate if anyone can advise of compatible models in Australia that I could pull a dab/GPS aerial off

The models would be the same as over here, may have different trim levels / names, but DAB is often an option, especially on the older cars.

The link I posted is £65, not much money and saves all the messing around looking for one, postage and cost to buy or fuel to go get a used one, will work out the same "Imo". They ship world wide as well.

Do you have something against a new one ?

I think you're right, I'm going to a lot of effort to save not that much money - I might just buy new

Thanks for your help
