Why are UK Car Registration Plates going to 70 in September?

*cough

Our ROI system will last... indefinitely, unless people manage to confuse a 1987 corolla for whatever the 2087 equivilent is...

actually, no itll be confusing a 2013 with a 2113, given the minor tweak applied then so good for at least 87 more years ;)

I find the the new system is far easier to remember as the year is stated on the plate, (or year plus 50). The old Letters will only last for 21 years (if 1 per year) as you can't use some letters. Current system lasts double that, 49/50 years.

Actually the old system could do 42 years depending on which end you put the letter but either way for some reason I find them a bit easier to remember...   I can even remember the registration of my parents cars from when I was a kid...   And I'm 52 now 😀

Strangely, I remember a car registration for a Hillman Avenger that followed our family car for several miles through Northumberland, almost 50 years ago. I remember it only had single headlights per side, while our Avenger had twin lights (no idea what our cars reg was though :D ). HBB473K  weird or what? I can barely remember where my front door is. My brother used to be able to recall it too. Must check

You searched for HBB473K

If you are sure that you entered the correct registration number and you need to make further enquiries please contact DVLA.

Just had to !

I tried that years ago, but not many Hillman Avengers have made it to the present :crying:
