New Kodiaq, many questions!! Lights, oil, weight...

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am new to Kodiaq (1.5 TSI SE-L, auto, 7 seater), having owned a Karoq, briefly. I must say I love the car....but I have only had it for 24 hours.

So, tried to go through the manual and I got tired after about one hour. I then had a play in the car, but I still have a few questions that I cannot find an answer to, so I was wondering if anyone here would be so kind to help.

1. I cannot seem to find what oil I should use. Planning long trip soon so I want to have oil with me. Does anybody know what oil I need please?

2. The manual doesn't shed any light on the MIRO (coming from caravanning and motorhoming...) and on the payload. Any ideas?

3. I noticed that I can select an option in the menu to "adjust" the front lights for driving on the right side. So I have just been out and tried to swap between left and right mode (pointing lights at my fence) and I can't see a great deal, to be honest. Does it really mean I can do without sticking the beam deflectors on when I go to mainland Europe?

Thanks to anybody so kind to help!

Oil to vw508/509 so 0w 20 full synthetic IV ,. Unless already serviced and the oil from the factory changed and vw504/507 so 5w 30 FS III might have been used.

Great thanks.  I was told to use vw50400 by Skoda UK and so that will be the 5w-30 oil I need

When was your car built?   The issue with asking SKoda customer services is they give the answer they gave you. But if your car has vw508/509 as used in the factory for 2 years now that is what you should top up with.  You can go to vw 504 when an oil change is done.

I bought the car from a dealer on Saturday.  The car registered in Sept. 2019.  The dealer told me that the car had been fully checked and the paperwork they gave me says that an oil change was done.  Hence I don't know what oil could be in there.  Do the dealers put in vw50400 oil?

Correct. You don’t need to beam deflectors - just change the menu option.

Thank you Mr Trilby!

I would ask the dealership if they used the correct 0w 20 FS IV to vw 508 which SKoda UK and dealership staff say is required to keep the warranty valid.   That is rubbish obviously as like you were told and as some dealers do. They say vw504 is correct.    You might think because they work in the car business they might read up on it and get consistent on what they tell owners and customers.

I thought there was a sticky on the car somewhere with a few details of capacities, but I can't find one.

However, if you're not already aware, there is an online manual available that's more detailed than the handbook.

I haven't looked to see if it contains the info you require.

Also, here's a link to the part of Honest Johns website that lists Kodiaqs currently on sale. Just click on your particular model and you will find some details of weights and capacities. Hopefully that will help until you find something more comprehensive.

Just checked with the dealership and they put 0W 20 oil into the car when they checked it.  They have recommended that I use that in the future.  Skoda UK got it completely wrong!!

There is a an oil sticker under the bonnet, above the grill. Providing it has not peeled off.

Good to know. To be honest haven’t really had a good look around the bonnet 😶. Will do it tonight.

thanks
