Washed 'n' Waxed, plus a few mini-mods (56k forget it)

Featured Replies

Well, what a glorious weekend! Decided yesterday morning to have a go at a mod I've been thinking about for ages. Basicaly a W8 type lighting mod (two downlighting LED's), but also, illumination for the storage tray below the stereo.

I didn't want to do what I did last time with the Passat (use the sunroof power supply) as it gave full brightness and was always on with the ignition. This time, I cannibalised a head unit extension plug thingy, so I took a feed off the illumination feed to the radio. This fed both lighting areas, going up behind the trim around to the top and into the roof area.

The tray LED's used the earth from the radio, but I didn't want to feed another wire around to the sunroof area, so I drilled a small hole in the metalwork up there, put a self-tapping screw in and a wire with a washer-connection on the end. I ran this into the top.

Overall, I'm very pleased! I havn't got any night photos yet, so here's some day ones. I have turned them on at night, though, and the overhead ones produce a lovely gentle glow over the cabin. I'm going to wire in a switch as some point too so they can be turned off. All the connections were made with crimp connectors so I can easily revert it to stock when I sell it. :) As it's linked into the radio illumination, it dims with the dimmer control for the dash. I also filed the tray LED's flat so that they produce a wider and more diffused light than they do normally. The interior lights are of course untouched, so they still function as normal. :) I also took advantage of the rather nice weather and Turtle'd the car.

Cheers. :)

It did take a little while as I wanted the wire to the top totally out of sight, so it goes through the dash. Well worth it, though! :)

The only little drawback with blue LED's (I had them on my Megane) that in the evening, if you want to read a map (or anything) they're useless. But hey, they DO look cool though

They're supposed to be white lol. Actually, at night, they're a lot whiter looking. I think the camera distorts the colour a bit anyway.

Fabia looks great in green. Nice car!

Cheers. Green is a royal PITA to keep clean (esp. as it's met green, so it's a bit darker), but when it's shined up it's a pretty nice colour!:cool:
