Where to fit Next base 522 with rear camera attached

Featured Replies

Has anyone fitted or had this fitted to their fabia windscreen ,because of the rear looking camera it has to be fitted on the drivers side is this legal and could it be a distraction. Thanks for any replies

Hi, I have a Spaceback and have this exact camera. I originally put it on the passenger side next to the rear view mirror but removing the camera off the mount because of the strong magnet was a nightmare. I have just moved it to the driver side. I don’t have the display showing when i’m driving so I have not found it a distraction.

It needs to be positioned outside of the swept area of the windscreen wipers for an MOT.

ii. materially affecting the driver’s view of the road through the swept area of the windscreen or an obligatory external mirror not visible Major

Thanks AG Falco

I fitted one of these to my Octavia a few weeks ago.

Hardest part was running the cable through the tailgate so it was nice and neat.

Do you mean the rear view camera through the cabin or the one that attaches to the rear windscreen?

I also found out (the hard way) that you need to use a Class 10 U3 card as any other means it won't play. 🤨

Is that the 522? do you leave it in all of the time? I like to take mind out at night but the magnet is so strong it keeps ripping the mount off the screen. There must be a knack to it? I moved it to my drivers side to make it easier to remove and add the inside cabin camera which is connected to the USB port on the right side of the camera. It probably does infringe on the wiper coverage thinking about it.

It's the 522.

I leave mine in all the time.

If you have the Parking mode activated (to switch the camera on if anyone bumps the car while parked) it won't be much use if the camera is in your house. 🤪

That’s true. I have parking mode disabled. The car is only a spare so never goes anywhere apart from my space at work and my driveway so only really interested in recording journeys.

Thanks very much for the replies and pics the 522 has the rear view camera attached to it (New this year) and must be placed on drivers side and I think it must fit behind the mirror the rear camera just showing out.I heard it could invalidate your insurance if not placed correctly. It has to be in the range of the wipers to see out in rain etc https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/cars/1122395/dash-cam-uk-error-car-dashcam-placement#:~:text=It%20isn't%20illegal%20to,free%20from%20obstructions%20to%20vision.%E2%80%9D  ?

.... Have you noticed any DAB interference from the rear camera? .....

The Ferrite Block that is supplied with the 522 is designed to cut down on any interference. I attached mine just before the cable enters the camera and have had no issues with interference on the radio. 🤞

There would be if the rear camera was near the boot but mine is part of the main camera and points rearward so no interference as SOFO posts there is a suppressor fitted to lead near to camera .It just seems a big item to place on windscreen the garmin is tiny compared to this so may have to swap a big thank you for all replies  and what a pleasant site and people for us Skoda lovers full of useful tips and hints I have already fitted an armrest thanks to this site
