It's only the newer sets that do, the older one's have an old system of slowly heating up the screen from either side or bottom to top.

I once had a cab ride in a preserved 1960s Class 14 that appeared to have wires in the windscreen very similar to those in my Focus.

I used to find the wires in any windscreen quite a distraction, now I don't, I just see straight through them.

 

It's just a case of getting used to them.
