Lowered ride comfort

Featured Replies

I have had my Eibach springs on now for about six months and think the car looks ten times better with them. I also think the cornering is much better too but I have a gripe with the ride comfort. On smooth flat roads it is excellent and barely any different to the standard setup but on undulating roads it seems to be harsh and bouncy at the same time, any bumps seem to unsettle it. I have a couple of theories as to why this could be and was hoping you guys could help me:

1. When my springs were fitted the bump stops weren't trimmed as some people have had done.

2. The standard dampers are giving too soft a ride to match the springs.

3. A jabba ARB will help?

Would be interested to see if any others feel the same way, thanks

Bump stops need to be cut as otherwise it will not be able to use the full travel of the suspension, instead it will hit the stop and stop the suspension from doing it's job (read: the car WILL go up with the bump once it's on the stop(s) if you run out of travel).

Standard dampers - several people have used standard dampers with the Eibachs without trouble, they'll wear quicker but should be fine. I went for the full kit as there was a GB at the time and it just worked better for me that way.

The car will follow the road more than on the standard springs, I found the control much better.

The jabba rear ARB is definitely a BIG help in general, it holds the car much flatter and I really miss it at the moment (mine was off to get it painted).

I certainly would advise cutting down the bump stops as per the guides, I know the tuners cut it down when fitting the suspension, and Stu did it on mine too.

That said we only had to cut two stops down, the other two already seemed less high so there was no need to cut it - I reckon the bump stop must have been altered at some stage near the 05 reg starting but no guarantee.

Keep an eye on tyre pressures too as they can cause this (caught me out again last week when I was being lazy and didnt check :o )

Hopefully you can get on the ARB GB that's going on at the moment

Thanks for the advise I am on the GB already

Don't know where to get bump stops trimmed or how much I would be charged?

As above really. My bumpstops were trimmed when I fitted the Eibachs and the ride quality is probably slightly better than standard in most situations.

Hi

Driving the standard car, it is very obvious that the dampers are not really up to the springs rating, so with harder springs, I would imagine wheel control and secondary ride would be worse.
