Query bent stub axle

Featured Replies

Hi

I've got a wobble on the back end, just had to take my car into garage because I had a rattle that I couldn't find, he said it was the back plate on my brake, he also asked if I'd hit something to make that come loose, I'm guessing it could have been a bad man hole,    going back to the top of this feed, if I have hit something, a) could that have also bent my stub axle and, b) could the bent stub axle cause a wobble....before I get all the standard answers, I've got brand new wheels on that have been balanced and tracked, this wobble was happening before the new wheels

What did the mechanic and the wheel fitters say about the wobble???

My mechanic has put it down to my high speed dampers in my shocks, but they are less than a year old , and it's a constant wobble, it's not as if it's an over-reaction in the shock, the wheel place hasn't suggested it's anything to do with the wheels / tyres

It should be pretty easy to check the runout of the brake discs and where the alloys sits :)

@ambrymann What area Nottingham are you???

Who is 'your mechanic'...........or garage you use???

I ask as I use Wilford Lane Autocentre and I would recommend them............... No affiliation at all but been using them for years now.

Rear suspension bushes degraded?

Try handbrake application at moderate speed to check for twist/pulling from problem side.

Tilt... I use a local one in hucknall ... have done for years but there is a couple more in this area that I could try, thanks for the recommendations though

there's autotech in stapleford who's a vag specialist who I've been using for a long time now and he's very good and well priced.

regarding the back plate have you had the wheels off and had a look? these sometimes become rusty and break down at the fixing points leading to them moving about and making noise.

have you had the tracking checked?

Tracking and balancing have been done, the back plate has been sorted, but what is the name of the place in stapleford please

just  to clarify this was full 4 wheel alignment  with a print out.

when did this wobble start .. after you fitted new shocks?  was this all round or just one or two ?  have you checked your RARB?

I'd highly doubt you've bent your axle, if you'd hit something hard enough to do that, you'd certainly have known about it

Where the RARB is suspended it can be rubber or plastic. The rubber can perish with age whereas the plastic is more durable.

shyVRS245... on my MOT the right anti roll bar linkage came up as an advisory (slight play), could that be the cause of the wobble?
