Tyre recommendation

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just wondering what tyres any of you recommend? I have the 1.2tsi (66 plate) 225/50/17 size.

Car is just used on mainly tarmac so no off road requirement really.

Something reasonably priced and quiet would be good :)

Many thanks.

Many thanks, will take a look 👍🏻

It would help if the OP were to specify his/her Yeti and give an approximate (at least) location.  Horses for courses, and all that. 🙂

Doesn't, matter to the tyres I mentioned as they have served me equally well in all the places I have lived ,snow in the Chiltern Hills, in floods in the Nene valley and finally in sunny Devon. An all round good tyre.

Yeti 1.2tsi, 66 plate.

Based in Wales, just looking for a good all purpose tyre.

Thanks.

If you want a quiet tyre then both Michelin CrossClimates and Goodyear Vector 4Season Gen2 (now 3) have proven to be quiet in use. I went for the Goodyears and they really are very quiet with much reduced road noise. The previous tyres were Goodyear EfficientGrips and they are reported as quiet but the Vector 4 seasons are really significantly quieter. They drive well and, of course, you have the benefit of an all year round tyre so no problem in winter at lower temps or snow & ice. Read a few reviews on the internet - Autoexpress did a good comparison test.

215/60R16

225/50R17

All these tyre sizes are interchangeable. 15" tyres will only fit the Yeti if you have the 288mm diameter front discs. The 1.2TSI is one of the lower powered Yeti's, so I expect that it is fitted with 288mm diameter front discs and therefore 15" wheels should clear the front brake calipers.

Good quality 205/70R15 tyres are much cheaper than the other two sizes and give a more comfortable ride as well as more mpg. All of these three tyre sizes have the same outside diameter so the gearing won't change whatever size you choose.

205/70R15 is not a standard tyre size on the Yeti. It may not be legal in some countries like Germany that have very strict laws on the fitment of non-standard tyre sizes.

Hi i have a 17 plate 1.2 tsi and just had fitted Hankook Kinergy 4S2 H750 225/50/17

They seem ok at the moment the car travels alot of lanes so in the winter i hope they will help

Simon

I'm non my second set of Michelin Cross Climates. The first set did around 25,000 before a  non-repairable puncture and I decided to replace all four tyres rather than just one axle otherwise still a millimetre or two of wear before reaching the legal limit so I was happy with the wear rate. They were noticeably quieter than the tyres the car came on and road holding good in dry and wet but not had the need or chance to see if they live up to their claims for use in snow.

I'd be happy to recommend them but obviously there are a number of other equally suitable choices out there and unfortunately you don't get a chance to try-before-you-buy with tyres.
