Random parking sensor issue?

Featured Replies

Good evening all,

I’m a newbie to this forum, although I have used it on a number of occasions and found some very helpful information. And now I’m in need of some more helpful advice!

I have a 2013 (13) Octavia Estate, 1.6 TDI Elegance. I have recently started having some issues with my rear parking sensors. They seem to be randomly detecting an object at the rear offside of the car, even though there is nothing there. Sometimes I put the car in reverse, and it has a constant tone and shows a red line on the proximity bars on the screen (I.e. there’s something there). Other times, it comes on for a few seconds, then goes off, and then comes back on again.

After reading some of the other posts on the forum, I switched 2 of the sensors around to see if the issue moved with the sensor. Nope, the issue stayed in the same place. I put my finger on each sensor, and they are all clicking/pulsing which suggests they are all working fine. When I put my finger over the sensor in question, it stops beeping and the other sensors work fine (does this mean anything?).

What is my next step? My thoughts at the moment are that either the parking sensor controller/module is faulty, or there is an issue with the wiring somewhere?

Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dean

Next step? Find someone with VCDS and get it scanned.

Thanks. Anyone with VCDS in Herefordshire, or nearby?

Have a look on the map

Hi all. Since yesterday, the onboard computer has been showing a warning light and message saying that the rear right reversing light is out. I checked, and yes the light was indeed out. I have just changed the bulb (even though the bulb looked fine), but it still doesn’t work? Surely this must be linked with the parking sensor issue?

Does this suggest a wiring issue somewhere? Would VCDS help to find this, or would it just tell me that the reversing light is out?

wg100 - having looked at the map, you are one of the closest with VCDS.

Thanks

Feel free to PM me, I can run a scan of your car which would pick up any faults.
