Spacers Superb 2

Featured Replies

Hi guys. How big could be a wheel spacer on Superb 2012?

Would you recommend brand?

Thanks!

It is hatchback on 18" alloys

Buy wheels that fit your car instead!

Why do I need to buy more wheels, when mine are OK???

If they're the original wheels, fitting spacers is going to mess up the suspension/steering geometry and could leave the car dangerous to drive.

Of course it will change geometry and behaviour, but we are talking about 2 cm, less than an inch. And if it was that dangerous, they wouldn't sell them, right? I have read a lot about it and now I have just a question about it. I am taking my risk.

Plenty of items are sold that are dangerous...

You'll probably be fine with 2 cm but just remember you need hubcentric versions and longer bolts.

Personally, I wouldn't bother 🙂

When it comes to suspension, 2 cm is a huge amount. On the front axle it's going to make the steering really odd, on the rear it's probably just going to shred your tyres because the geometry is a mess.

They are sold because there are lots of people in the world with more money than sense who think they're a great idea. The only remotely good reason to use the is to fit wheels with a different offset but for that it's better to buy wheels with the correct offset in the first place.

And it's not just you that's at risk here, it's anyone else traveling in your car or sharing the road with you.

This report goes into the finer points of suspension design and might show you why what you want to do is a bad idea: https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Design-of-a-Suspension-for-a-Formula-Student-Race-Theander/e33489bb1ec02715530f225d40c0e4da6b451856

I know they need to be hubcentric, and also they come with the longer bolts in the set.

Given all the negatives (correctly) mentioned what are you trying to achieve?

Also worth mentioning that there are regulations governing tyres protruding outside of bodywork, you could have issues at MoT or if you get a particularly officious officer who hasn’t hit his/her target that month.

I have 10mm spacers, but that was to correct the offset of a set of wheels that I liked.

Theres no binary answer to this.... lots of factors. Probably a good plan to do your research and gain an understanding of the process.

Random opinions on a Skoda Superb forum are probably less useful to you. Find a suspension/track/race specialist and give them a phone call.

Ask your question on Pistonheads.

Personally i dont think it will look nice.

The wheels are too skinny at 7.5". Personally i would look for a set of audi wheels at 8-8.5" wide.

The back of a superb is fairly wide and 225s on a 7.5" rim looks slim anyway. Just my opinion of course. I see what you mean by using spacers but i don't think you will like the end result anyway
