Fit switch next to gear lever

Featured Replies

I am looking to fit a push to make switch next to the lever has anyone done this and what did they use.

Make what.... an omelette? Sorry, couldn’t help myself!

Might be an idea to clearly explain what it is that you’re trying to do?

Push to make switch = electrical circuit is open (off) until it's pushed

Push to break switch = electrical circuit is closed (on) until it's pushed

Well, that’s what they do. However... what are you going to operate with the switch? I ask as although you can buy the switch units, as far as I recall, none of these positively lock on or off, so depending on what you’re going to use it for, they may not be suitable.

I'm keen on doing this too, but in my case to operate my garage door opener.

A number of Golf owners have done this by buying a additional button to use in a blank spot, and then wire up the garage remote to it.

I've removed the existing switch panel to see how it all hangs, and it appears they share the same "backbone" to interface with the car.

So adding another button to the existing loom will b tricky.

However adding another button, wired up separately might b possible.

100% correct , I mistakenly thought people would understand push push to make. The switch is needed enable the rear hatch lid to be closed.

Thanks for the link with the info on adding another switch. I want to use it to open the rear hatch lid. I have already ran  the 2 wires required into where the switches are next to gear lever. It’s a pity we don’t have Maplin anymore. I will use Ali express.
