Tough choice...

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

I'm having a hard time since a few weeks choosing my next Yeti, maybe you guys could help me ? ☺️

I'm hesitating between 1.2/110 with few kilometers (around 40.000) and 1.4/125 at the same price but with x2 kilometers (80.000)

AND more problematic, i'm dreaming of an automatic (that was one of my first criteria) BUT i've read a lot of bad things about this DSG7 (DQ200) so i'm really wondering if I should stick to manual or not... would you consider a 1.4/125 DSG - 2016 - 80.000km risky ?

Many thanks for your help!

..tough choice. I have a 1.4 Yeti (150hp), and prior to that a 1.4 Octavia with the 122hp engine. Both (122hp and 150hp) engines are an absolute peach, performance similar to my previous (2ltr) diesels, good economy, (45 mpg actual), and very smooth and quiet!

I also test drove a 1.2 DSG Yeti as I also want an auto for my next car, and that too was a really nice drive, certainly plenty enough performance for me. However I was also a little put off by the reported dsg problems particularly when most will now be 3+ years old and out of warranty.

My personal choice (assuming both are in good condition with a service history) would be to go with the lower mileage option. Regarding auto or manual?...a bit more difficult to decide. If you are mainly town/city driving probably worth taking a punt on an auto?/but only you can really determine your risk levels. Consider that VAG must have sold millions of dsg's and you will only hear about the bad ones...?

Well I’ve now had 3 DSG’s, the latter 2 in Yeti’s. First Yeti was 2012 1.2 Tsi DSG and I didn’t have any problems with the DSG, the second is a 2017 1.2 Tsi DSG which I bought deliberately as the Yeti was going out of production and I couldn’t find anything as good to replace it with. New DSG is smoother than in the 2012 model and seems to be in the right gear even when off/on throttle like entering a roundabout. Mind you the DSG box has had 5 more years of development since 2012 and most bugs would have been ironed out. Personally I wouldn’t be worried about getting a DSG box but why not take out a Warranty to give you peace of mind?

I have driven autos for the last 20+years and wouldn’t dream of going back to a manual - clutch in, clutch out, clutch in clutch out ad infinitum, why would anyone want to do that, particularly on our generally crowded roads?
