Still miss my vRS!

Featured Replies

Saw this recently and remembered just how much I miss my Mark I vRS. I had two of them, the last being an 05 in red.

Video has a lot of errors and found it a little hard to watch with half the video not in focus. But, good to see that people still do love the VRS.

Totally agree👍👍, loved the video.

Not that many cars around with a full size matching alloy spare in the boot.

I bought mine in 2006 and it still raises a smile every time I drive it.

Regular annual oil changes (fully synthetic oil) and Shell V Power petrol keep everything running sweet.

I did just that after an eight year gap. It was the only car I truly regretted selling so when this one came up at the right time, I didn't hesitate to go and get it.

I found myself mumbling at certain points when he made small errors but overall it was a very positive review.

I am amazed though when people drive a standard car and say it's quick.  I remember my first ever drive of a vRS back in 2006 and I was very underwhelmed.  I had just sold a 200sx S14 and the Octavia felt very pedestrian but I knew it had potential & bought one of the last new ones for £12500.  Bit of a bargain seeing as a second hand one was £11.5k at the time.

EXACTLY THIS! I was trying to watch the rev counter and he wasn’t even going fast or rev’d it past 4K. They’ve got a terrible flat spot between 4K-5K which plays havoc with mappers and they do generally feel slow even when ragging them. I guess at the time they felt fast as there wasn’t to much out around them times, unless you went for big money.

I do keep checking Autotrader, but nice ones are such a rarity (and I don't have the necessary skills to restore one back to it's former glory)

Apart from a Yeti (I've had 4!) and 2 Roomsters the Mk I vRS was the only car I bought again.

I did try both a Mk II and Mk III vRS, but thought they'd lost something compared to the Mk I. I remember asking the dealer what would happened to the climate control, electric rear windows, leather and spare Alloy.

This one is close to me (and looks very original / clean) but I think it's too expensive.

Red was always my favourite colour for a vRS:thumbup:

I had a MK2 vRS estate for three years and it was a great car.  I spent a lot of time & effort maintaining and modifying it and overall it was a cracking family barge.  It never let us down and took us on some European road trips without any fuss at all - but I never loved the car as much as my Mk1.  I respected the car for its capabilities and for how reliable it was but there was something missing, hence making the return to a Mk1.

This is because no one really posts on AT, unless your a trader. All the MK1's for sale (of decent and low mileage) are on FB, especially the MK1 groups. Just in the last month there have been sub 90k miles for sale.

FB is were I found my Red VRS, if it wasn't for that this place I would've never of found the spec I was looking for. So it's well worth having a snoop around there.

Many thanks for the advice.
