Failing to engage cruise control

Featured Replies

We have owned our Yeti for a few months now and we're extremely happy with it so far. Recently we made a longer roadtrip (1200km/745miles) and I used the cruise control a lot on the Autobahn in Germany. After a few changes of speed and after a few hours of drive I couldn't engage the cruise control anymore.

This isn't the first time it has happened I have noticed it once before when I did a pretty short drive from the grocery store to home (5km drive).

Both times I have had to restart the car to be able to use the cruise control again. Which when traveling pretty far isn't really a good option.

Has anyone else experienced this failure to engage cruise control and if so has anyone been able to successfully fix this failure?

Its usually the contacts within the stalk selector switch that need cleaning.

..used to get this a lot in the later days of my Octavia, sometime OK, sometimes would not work, most threads seem to suggest dirty contacts?

Yeah I have read about this in some other threads. I will give it a try and clean the contacts. Also read that someone suggested swapping it out completely but will try to clean them first :)

Thanks for the answers! :)

My Fabia locked out cruise control when a vacuum pipe to the brake booster split.

I had this on my first Yeti and it turned out to be a poor driving habit on my part!  Without realising it I had my resting on the brake pedal as soon as I corrected this the problem disappeared.

Not had this problem but it's a 2016 car in Stockholm. Is it possibly one of those strange, intermittent problems that can occur when the battery is in the early stages of failure but still good enough to start the car and run most of the systems, lights etc without a problem? Often we've seen reports on this forum of strange apparently random faults disappear when a new battery has been fitted. Just a thought as the battery is of an age where it's had it's best years so replacing it maybe a year of too early if this isn't the problem isn't a big and unnecessary outlay.

Stockholm is not the actual location... And when the car is running it's usually for a minimum of 1hr at the time with a few expectations when going to the local stores. Former owner didn't live in central parts either so the car haven't been overly exposed to short runs only.

The battery has been checked few weeks ago and it's the original, maintenance charged from time to time and most recently just few weeks ago.

I find it unlikely that the battery is the issue here. If so we would probably see other electrical issues too which we haven't.

I have cleaned the stalks connectors and we will see how this affects things as more people had reported similar issues on other Skoda models.

Been driving for 2 weeks or so now after cleaning the connectors and stalks and it seems to work fine have done a few run +400km  without any issues.
