Dashcam (without usb-c port on visor)

Featured Replies

I've recently ordered a Scala SE L - it was prebuilt so i didn't have the option of getting the USB C port by the sun visor - I wondered if anyone had advice for installation of dashcam? wondering if the cables to get power are still there even though the port isn't.

I was hoping they left the wiring in the boot for the 12v adapter that was standard on all Scala SEL models pre September 2019 no such luck. I would not hold your breath with the wiring by the sun visor. I had the wiring for my dash cam professionally done in Jan this year cost me £90 by a company  that mainly deals with VW cars I provided the parts. Sorry to say no wiring left in my Jan 2020 Scala by Skoda for a dash cam.

I installed a Nextbase dashcam in my Scala SE using the Nextbase hard wire kit; the camera is fixed on the passenger side - the cable runs behind the roof lining across to the passenger side windscreen pillar trim (this unclips) then down a gap and behind the glove box and across to the fuse box where it piggybacks onto an existing fuse. The cable is secured in various places with cable ties. I couldn't work out how to remove the centre roof consul to get the cable across, which is why I went the long route!

I just ran a cable to one of the USB-C ports. I had to add a 'data blocker' to stop the car/dashcam thinking that a USB drive had been attached. To fit the cable around the back of the glove box to the camera took about 5 minutes.
