Fabia 1.6 TDI

Featured Replies

Hi, can anybody help with engine codes fitted?  Autodata only list CAYA, b and C for a 2011 Fabia 1.6, but the car I am going to buy has a CAYD fitted. Or at least that is what the belt cover sticker says.  From what I can find this engine code was for the Caddy.

Can anybody confirm this please?

Paul

The listing Autodats has is repeated in the haynes manual, if that helps... No mention of CayaD although it only goes up to 2014. (64 reg).

The listings I have show no usage in Skoda, Seat or Audi for CAYD.

In  VW Caddy, CAYD and CAYE are both found (first 2 columns are kW and bhp):

Hi, thanks for the reply.  I do not use Haynes.  The codes CAYA, CAYB and CAYC are all fitted to the 1.6TDI car range.  The Fabia I have put a deposit on is a 2011 car.  When I looked at the code on the engine cover it was CAYD.  After getting home I checked and everything I can find says Caddy only for CAYD.  It is not a problem but I am curious to see if anybody has seen this before or maybe this vehicle has had an engine change at some point? The power output is still OK, 103hp I think.

Hi, thanks for the reply.  My guess is the car must of had an engine change but until I pick it up next weekend I am unable to do any further checks.

Yeah, seems like the simplest explanation.

It will just be what ever cam belt covers they had lying around. Mine was the same. Engine code will be on the sticker in the boot.

The sticker on the belt cover contains the engine number too, just after the code, doesn't it?

That might be on V5c? Could enable a cross-check.

If you've put a deposit on it, then there should be no reason why they would not give you the VIN, then you can do a full background check on the car.  This should tell you the engine code, I'm sure there is a number linking the engine to the chassis as well.  You could ask the seller to photo the ECU at the back of the engine bay behind the intake filter box, that will definitely have the coding because the last letter is ECU related.
