Odd Clutch Pedal Behaviour

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, need some advice.

Car is 2014 Diesel 2 ltr 4x4 manual.

Went to drive the car this afternoon, and found the clutch pedal had only come up to half way. Gears where changing OK but a bit stiff and notchy going into gear.  The maxidot was not showing what gear I was in so took it for a small run and got up to 75mph in sixth at which point the maxidot started showing which gear it was in and the clutch pedal returned to the fully up position. On the way back home decided to stop and try the 4x4 mode, it took about 5 pushes before the light came on and car engaged in 4 wheel drive, tested on a steep incline and the hill descent mode was working.

Has anyone any ideas and is it safe to drive? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Pete

I suspect your clutch slave cylinder is on the way out.

I don't understand your comments about 4x4 mode.  It's not something that you switch on and off.  It's enabled all the time and the Haldex decides when and how much torque to send to the rear wheels depending upon a number of factors and primarily the difference in rotation speed between front and rear wheels.

The car has a off-road switch, I was just checking anything else I could find when the car was on the road. Thanks for your reply. I should add the mileage is on 33,450.

Cheers

Clutch slave cylinder.Mine gave up, difficult to change gear but would work if I pulled up the clutch pedal. Gearbox out to change it.

Note, the Off-Road Button does not turn the 4 wheel drive system on. That is done automatically by the Haldex system, which is sensing permanently.
