Passenger could not unlock door from inside

Featured Replies

Can anyone please help? I locked doors when I got out of the car to go into argos store , my partner and son were left in the car , while I was in argos the car alarm was going off so I had to go out and unlock the doors to stop the alarm. My partner could not open the door from the passenger side when I was in argos   how can someone open the door from the inside after I have got out the car and locked the doors with the remote , because in a emergency they could not get out the car. Also how can they open the doors without the alarm going off ?

A similar thing happened to me as a passenger in my late father's Octavia. He went into a shop and obviously locked the car out of habit. I remember that it was a hot sunny day and I couldn't open a door or window to cool off.

This is the way the locks and alarm are intended to work, and there is a deadlock feature for security to prevent the doors from being opened if a window is breached. Normally it is not usual or necessary to lock the car if somebody is remaining inside, but you may have a particular reason for wishing to do so.

Assuming the Rapid is similar to the Octavia there should be a push button on the B pillar that you can press to deactivate the alarm's motion detector before closing the door and locking the car. This will not enable any occupants to exit a locked vehicle, but at least they will be able to move about without setting off the alarm. I have found this useful if I am leaving the car with the dog inside and/or leaving windows partly open for cooling purposes. (Obviously ensuring that I am not endangering the dog by doing it when it is too hot).

Thank you for your reply , Yes i have figured out earlier tonight as i went to the local skoda dealer in Mansfield and as they had almost closed as it was nearly 7 pm , a person who was locking up came to my help on showing me how to deactivate the alarm when getting out of the car. My concern is i lock the doors when i get out because the world is crazy and many bad things can happen so i prefer not to leave doors unlocked unless with a big grown up adult. I just need to know if there is a way to open from inside , Me and my brother tried few things out earlier and the closet we got was to , when i got out my drivers door , open door and press button , it then turns orange and close drivers door and within 30 seconds lock it by pressing lock button twice very quickly within 2 seconds apparently. We then waited approx 1 minute and i was stood outside my car , my brother was in the passenger seat.  He managed to open the passenger door from inside but this then caused the alarm to go off. We tried this a few times but the car alarm went off every time he opened the door from the inside. So we managed to open it fron inside but need to sort alarm out as i had already deactivated it. I am going to go back to the skoda dealer tomorrow to see if they can give advice. In the meantime can anyone help further ?

The best combination that I can think of is if you press the button on the B pillar to deactivate the motion detectors then press the door lock button on the fob twice which I believe deactivates the dead locks to allow someone to exit the vehicle. The alarm will still go off when the door is open though I would think.

Thank you , yes ive tried this but the alarm still did go , im going to go to the local skoda main dealer near where i live to ask them. Surely anyone  still in the car when ive got out and locked it ,can still open the door somehow for emergency exit.

Get your partner to lock the car using the button on the dash.

Thanks, AG Falco

This is normal on almost every modern car - when you lock the car as default you deadlock it so the locks can't be opened from the inside. This is a security feature to stop a thief opening the door from the inside after breaking a window. Infact if you had this modified you would have insurance issues as this feature is part of the insurance assesment.

I’ve not tested on a Rapid but on other Skodas If you push the lock button twice in fairly short succession you should be able to disable the deadlocks and part of the alarm (no red light flashing afterwards). Infact I usually do this if I'm on a long overnight ferry crossing to stop the alarm being triggered repeatedly due to motion at sea.

I thought you said that it was possible to get out but not without setting off the alarm. In a dire emergency surely the alarm would not be a big concern.

If someone is in the car when you leave it, just get them to lock it from the button within the car (on the dash near the gearstick). That way they are secure in a locked vehicle and can also open the doors to get out if needed.

It shouldn't do. That would defeat the purpose of being able to lock the car from the inside.

I've sometimes seen me lock the doors from the inside when going through a rough neighbourhood. There's a setting either in the menu on the head unit or in Carista that locks the doors when you go over a certain speed. neither of these activate the alarm
