Running shoes

Featured Replies

from the running diary, you'll know ive started running - since July.

i need new trainers, but they will be for running only, not day to day use.

Im currently wearing out my 3rd pair of Asics Patriots, which ive always liked as a good fit, pretty light, supportive and look alright. but theyve really been day to day footwear in between wearing toe capped boots in work all day and house shoes at home with my 1 night a week at circuit training for an hour.

so, whose got a recommendation for a good fit, supportive and lightweight road running shoe?

i like sketchers too, but their recent shoes are a very narrow and so too tight across the instep.

I would recommend going to a running shop and get a pair fitted to you.   It’s important to get the correct level of support depending on your foot shop and instep height to prevent injury.

i like a Brooks Ghost, but they don’t suit everyone.

i probably will end up going for fittings alright, but having a bit of pre acquired knowledge helps cut through the sales blumff and avoid gettin sucked i to the pitch to "upgrade" to a pair a of nike vapourfly or some other massively over priced shoe :)

thanks for the Brooks tip, hadnt heard/noticed them previously so will have a look for them

the best running shoes I've tried for the last few years have been Adidas ultraboost (latest versions are 20) you can pick up some of the older models fairly cheap now which are still excellent and I still have these and use them.

they are without a doubt the most comfortable shoes I own for running and everyday use, being fairly heavy ~17st I certainly appreciate the cushioning they provide.

I went to a dedicated running store and tried basically every trainer they had in stock and ended up with a pair of Adidas Ultra Boost as well. Fantastic trainer. I use mine on the treadmill and even bought another pair for day to day use.

Part of the problem with running shoes is that like cars they keep 'improving', sometimes these are real improvements but very often not. My shoe of choice has for many years been the Asics GT2000 unfortunately though starting with the GT2000-6 they were downgraded through the omission of the external heel counter (semi rigid plastic) which to me is an important part of a supportive stable shoe. I have a few pairs of GT2000-5s but fear I may need to pay Asics GEL-KAYANO prices when these go done. If you are at either extreme of the size range and are OK with one of the less popular colours you can still get new old stock GT2000-5s

Do Sketchers really make running shoes? - it's just that any pair of Sketchers I've seen have been more akin to carpet slippers disguised as trainers.
