Trading in - leave upgraded stereo or refit stock?

Featured Replies

Bit of advice required, I’m trading in my 2010 mk2 superb CR140SE next week for a 2018 Mk3 sportline 280 and the dealer has told me its going straight to auction.

when I got it there was a Bolero head unit installed without sat nav, DAB or a decent iPod interface (I had an alpine head unit with full iPod control in my previous mk1 octavia vRS at the time) so after a bit of research I got hold of the Kenwood DNX521-DAB that was supposedly the dealer approved upgrade of the time and fitted that.

Been fairly pleased with it but now the question is do I leave the Kenwood installed and flog the Bolero on eBay leaving any new owner with a much better head unit installed (and the iPod lead in the glove box!) or go back to stock and try to flog the Kenwood?

looking on eBay there’s plenty of both options and only 1 of the Kenwood’s has a bid on it at the moment of around £300 while the boleros seem to be everywhere for around £40.

My gut is telling me it’s not worth the hassle and would be A: easier to use the Kenwood to get there (2 plus hour 130 mile drive!) and B: nicer to the future owner!

Thoughts anyone?

If you can deal with the hassle of removing and selling why not get some of your outlay back. If you have written it off value wise and don’t want the hassle leave it in there. Ultimately up to you.

For the hour it'd take to swap back, I'd definately put the old one in and sell the Kenwood.

Might try the old one back in next weekend and see if it works without any grief after 4 years in storage then could possibly swap it out at the last moment before I arrive to collect the new one and chuck it on eBay cheaper than the others. Just wouldn’t want it sitting around afterwards. Guess it’s got to be worth £200 easily if someone was looking for one.....

Spoke to the dealer today and they’re happy to have the standard Bolero installed for the trade in so I tested it out today and it’s all working.
If anyone is in the market for a Kenwood Dnx521-DAB with all required loom converters, sat nav receiver and the Kenwood canbus module plus the Skoda fascia plate that incorporates the passenger airbag light then mine will be going on eBay on the 14th at a very reasonable price!

Does the unit hook up with the MFD display or the factory Bluetooth at all?

just curious how well it works. We have a stock Bolero that’s rather dull.

In fact if you are getting rid of it... have seen the videos on YouTube it looks decent. Sent you a PM.

Hi I’ve replied.

yes it displays the station name or song name in the audio of the mfd and will also display the navigation turn instructions if you can add option 37 to the canbus controller installation options list with VCDS though this does add the compass direction indicator in the top left - unfortunately this always says “N” (known issue) but the sat nav does show the true direction of travel anyway if you need to know!

The car got traded in today with the original Bolero head unit re-fitted so the Kenwood and all it’s associated bits is now listed on eBay if anyone is in the market for one!

i won’t post the link here so as not to breach forum rules (?) but it should be easy enough to find.

moderators please let me know if this goes against forum rules....
