Leather seats - real ?

Featured Replies

Is the leather used on the Kodiaq seats. real leather or not ?

Specifically the half leather on the SE-L if it makes a difference

Thanks

I had the "full" leather on my 2017 SEL.  It's real on the top faces (under your thighs and behind your back), simulated elsewhere.

Don’t think many manufacturers apart from so called luxury brands use “ real” leather nowadays.

Most will use genuine on the centre surfaces of the seats but fake leather on other surfaces.

thanks, im looking into interior detailing products so needed to know which, does anyone have any suggestions ?

cheers

Automotive leather fake or not has a coating from the factory nowadays so no need for conditioners etc. Just look at products like 303 leather 3 in 1 or Gyeon leather shield - those two are highly rated in the detailing world.

I believe the half leather in the Kodiaq is real as it will being to show stretch marks. This is the downfall with real leather.

I had fake leather on my half alcantara seats in my Leon Cupra and the good thing was it never got any stretch marks. It didn't feel like leather but certainly looked it and always stayed in mint condition.

I have gone off full leather and really liking the half leather/Alcantara Seats that I have had in our past 3 cars now. not sure how i will find the cloth Sportline seats in my new Karoq that arrives next month

has anyone used CarPro PERL

Yes but I don’t like it on leather. I prefer leather being a nice satin texture and dry feeling while PERL tends to leave a bit of shiny residue, but I guess if you diluted it more it’d be fine.

Ive accidentally got in on my handbrake after applying to tyres. It’s very slippy. I’d think you’d be holding on for dear life if you used it on the seats?

Every 4 months I just do a clean and protect with a locally made product called Duraseal leather guard. Doesn't affect the look and texture of the leather at all which I like. That said I only really use it on the steering wheel nowadays since my current Kodiaq has the alcantara leather mix seats. On my last Kodiaq and on my Golf it works a treat.

It's been standard for many years (at least 30) on mainstream cars that only the surfaces you contact are real leather. There are a few specialist brands that use hide for the whole seat. But then again they also use it across the dash, the roof, and indeed most of the interior that isn't wood or carpet.
