1.4 16v?

Featured Replies

I've just replaced my old 1.4 16V with a new one.

The old one had a nice shiny 16V badge on the airbox, the new one just says 1.4.

Probably being paranoid, but I just wanted to check if this was normal, or is there the possibility that the non 16V (75bhp) engine has been fitted by mistake?

Thanks

Andrew

Aren't there 75 and 100 bhp versions of the 1.4 16v engine?

As above, I know theres 2 versions available, but how do I know for sure that the one in my car is the 16V 100 BHP?

The cars rear badge shows 16V as per the photo above. Its just the fact the airbox doesnt have a 16V badge on it thats worrying me.

Thanks again for the quick responses

Andrew

Lift up the carpet in the boot, and it should show a label/sticker with the engine code and power output in (kW). I believe the 100bhp engine is around 74kW....

Thats right.. it says 74 KW in the engine code...

The 1.4 16V really performs very well for its engine size and its class...

you could also check the V5 document, i'm sure it states the power output on there IIRC

V5 is just what it's been registered as, so there's no guarantee it's right unfortunately. :(

Perhaps they dropped the 16v badge when the 8v MPI was ditched? According to the Skoda website, both the 75 and the 100 1.4 engines are 16v and the 75 is only available with the auto gearbox.

badging was no doubt lost in the facelift and re-spec of models. Same as engine covers getting non coloured skoda badge.

Cost saving no doubt!

red 16v on the rear badge means its the 100bhp black 16v on the rear means its a 75bhp- they dont just do the 75 in the auto it was used shortly for the 1.4 sport then changed to the 1.2 i think the 75bhp was just brought out for people wanting a bit more than a 1.2 but cheaper to insure than the 100bhp one
