What oil is putting the Skoda when it leaves the factory

Featured Replies

Hi guys just bought my first Skoda Octavia se drive 20 plate Mark 3  as a lifelong Vauxhall man I've had to change Vauxhall has died and gone to the French side back to my question about my beautiful new silver Octavia can somebody tell me what grade of oil is put in the car at the factory  is it 0-20w  or 0-30 w as I want to do a low oil change at 1000 miles obviously there will be bits of metal in that engine after the first 1000 mile running but I am    not       sure what oil to replace it with 0 20 or is it  0   30

Hi, welcome to the forum - shouldn't your model be a MK4 now on a 20 plate?

Hi again, just had a quick look at spec. for 1.5 TSI (2017 - ) it looks as if 5W - 30 is the correct spec. (VW 504/507) - I think 0W - 20 is for some of the larger-engined VRSs

To be certain, take a look at the engine code label under the carpet near the spare-wheel well - on the label will be a 4 letter code for the engine - type this, along with fuel type and engine size, into any oil supplier website.

Thanks warrior you put my mind at rest will be looking at the spec code under carpet near the spare wheel

There was talk on here before about the recommended viscosity being a new low, chosen for high efficiency or low emissions, but it is so runny it can disappear quickly. You can use the previously recommended grade which some say works better.

Sorry I forgot the numbers you'll have to do a search.

BTW mine hardly used any of the new oil in 10k miles.

The owner's manual should tell you.  https://ws.skoda-auto.com/OwnersManualService/Data/en/Octavia_NX/07-2020/Manual/Octavia/A8_Octavia_OwnersManual.pdf

What size is the engine?  Petrol or diesel?

It's odd that the manual says, "ask  a specialist garage which oil to use!

It appears the latest  models are being filled with 0W 20 VW 508 spec oil from the factory.
