End of 5 year Warranty - Extend ?

Featured Replies

My 5 year warranty expires next month ... I've had an email today from skoda offering all component cover for £250 for next year...

Not had a chance to look at exactly what that covers but guessing it wont be stuff like electric tailgate struts, Columbus etc ?

Anyone have any experience of the extended, extended warranty direct from Skoda ?

Cheers

I haven't but I just wondered how much you have been able to use it in years 4 and 5 ? i.e. actually make a claim against it

Can’t help on the extended side of it as I’ve only just got mine so have a year but I’m already considering going for extended when that runs out. Did you buy your car brand new Nick and then purchase an extension when the original warranty ran out?
I’d be curious to know how much a two or three year one is....

If I remember the 2 years was about 600. Probably had around 2k’s worth of claims.... Well not really claim as as I just took it down to the dealer and they sorted just like in years 1 to 3.

Yes extended warranty purchased when I ordered the car. Mine was one of the very first 280’s in the uk.  It had to be purchased with the car to obtain the full manufacturer spec warranty over years 4 and 5. If you didn’t purchase straight away you could still take out the warranty later but it was an inferior product.

Cool, good to know.

How was it inferior then?

I'm guessing your route would be preferable to the dealers but hopefully people in my situation can still purchase a usable manufacturer approved warranty without completely breaking the bank once the standard used approved year has expired....

If I remember when you purchase with the car years 4 and 5 are exactly like the manufacturers warranty just extended. If you purchased later I think the warranty was still a Skoda approved product but underwritten by a third party... I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong..

Ive not looked at the details yet for the 6th year but would guess it would me similar in coverage to the Skoda third party product.

Either way £250 doesn’t seem like a bad deal to me for a full year.... Depending on what’s covered of course !

edit to say yes the warranty you would purchase will probably be the one Skoda are offering me now.

I was curious about the extended warranty and looked for a quote. I didn't buy new but second hand but the sales rep gave me an additional year warranty for my 2017 Superb (Skoda Approved Used Warranty which I guess is similar to the Named Component Warranty).

An annual All Component Cover with £0 Excess would cost me £750 (not including AA Roadside Assistance), yikes!  I think I'll be looking elsewhere for extended warranty once my year runs out, I was wondering if you've have any issues getting claims? The Fabia side of the forum seems to have experience quite some trouble with the extended warranty.

No problem but then even though it was an extended warranty it was an ‘extension’ to the full manufacturers warranty so in effect it was exactly the same... I didn’t have to make any claims I just took it in to have it fixed like I did with my 3 year warranty.

Skoda are quoting £380 for full component cover for a year with zero excess. My car has done 29600 miles and that’s for less than 10k a year...

I still need to do some research on what they mean in the wording by they only cover sudden failures.... That statement makes me a little nervous.. They could say any failure had been developing over time....

Ok I’ve decided to go for it be back in a year from now to say if my £380 was well spent :-)
