octavia 2.0 fsi removal of oil filter housing

Featured Replies

I have a Octavia 2.0 FSI 2005. When I start the engine oil starts pouring from above the oil filter. I guess that either the oil filter housing itself has a crack or that just an o-ring or gasket  is damaged.

Does anyone have some good advices to give before I start taking "things" away to reach the area around the housing and oil cooler? Should I for example start to remove the radiator? Any advice is welcome :).

Is it the cannister screw on filter or the reusable outer casing in which you insert a new mesh filter inside?

Either way, I'd be hopeful it is the filter, the filter outer cracked or the o ring in the bottom of the cannister is damaged.  If it is not it will be the housing but it's pretty robust.

You need to buy a spare filter, a spare oring if the re-usable outer casing type and remove to see what is going on.

If it's the reusable casing with replaceable filter then the plastic casing has probably hardened & cracked.  It's fairly common.

you can buy replacement plastic casings or aluminium ones.

Why would you remove the radiator?  At worst the fans would come out but I've never heard of that being needed.
