Has anyone applied sound deadening/isolator to the entire car?

Featured Replies

I wanted to ask to if anyone has covered the entire car with sound deadening - curious to find out how long it took and how much the costs were?

Thanks

:D

I've also been considering the same.

I've seen a lot somewhere before that comes with pre-cut sheets that fit in the boot, doors, under the seats and floors etc.

You can also buy sheets to cut yourself which is obviously cheaper.

The key areas are the spare wheel and boot area which can cut down any booming noises.

The doors are also another area to do. Then under the rear bench. And if you want to go the whole hog then take the roof liner out and add extra in there.

Not that my car is loud. Quite the opposite. It's super quiet (compared to all my other cars) but that just makes me want it even quieter! Lol

I got a very detailed response back from the deadening shop who suggestes a 2 stage approach for the best results.

So I'm planning to get a bulk pack of silent coat 2mm sheets with some sheets of MLV 6mm sheets for the floor and boot only.

I've read that applying some to the roof does make a big difference aswell.

Do you really think the noise is that bad?  I've had a couple of Oct 2 Scouts and the road noise was fairly poor, The first i didnt keep long enough but the second I actually brought a load of sound deadening to do it myself (having fully dynamatted my old MK2 Golf years ago).  Firstly I swapped the tyres as it had some cheap winter tyres on (Similair to the 1st Scout) and I swapped for 4 Continental Winter Contacts and that made a hugh difference - enough that i didnt end up sound deadening.

If you are intent on doing it, maybe do boot first and I'd do it yourself as its easy.  The boot carpet is really thin and im convinced that was a huge factor.

I've got Continentials Sports Contact 6 all round.  In my last VRS i stupidly only laid a MLV barrier in the boot and i felt like it didnt make much difference - https://www.deadening.co.uk/products/dodo-dead-mat-duo

so I was planning to buy a bulk pack of 2mm Silent Coat and a MLV for the boot only to start off with.

For the Floor, Footwells & Boot

I DIY'd the rear quarter panels, boot floor, spare wheel well and under the rear seat.  It took a day including faffing about drinking beer, etc.

It made a big enough difference that the noise from the front wheel arches became quite obvious.

I wouldn't pay someone to do it unless you are really cashed up.
