Swing upgrade to DAB?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was looking at upgrading the Swing in our 2014 Mk 2 combi SE to something with DAB and an SD card slot/USB/BTooth. If possible, also hands-free.

I'm guessing that there are three levels of difficulty here:

Easy : finding something with SD-card slot and USB/Bluetooth.

Intermediate: DAB as a unit swap will be relatively easy but a new aerial will be required.

Difficult: Hands-free as this would require mics and steering wheel (but is there an easier option?)

Otherwise, I guess a Pure DAB Highway 400 radio for about £60 might be a reasonable option but this doesn't have hands-free, either.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks for the replies.

I've not seen one for £100 ;-) but good work if you managed to get one for that.

Some questions, I guess:

I presume that the unit, when swapped between cars, will need a code?

Does the unit have to be from a Skoda (branding) in order for any code to work / the unit to work in another Skoda ? i.e. Can it be from a VW/SEAT and it will still work with the Fab?

If the car doesn't have steering wheel controls, does this cause any problems?

Do I still need a different (DAB) aerial for the RNS315 to receive DAB?

I'm not that fussed about the navigation but I take it that a GPS receiver is required for this to work? If so, where are they normally located?

I presume that the RNS315 is too old to have Android Auto ?

Thanks again.

They’re always in Facebook marketplace for around that price , Paid £90 for mine (skoda)+ £10 for the code, Have also pointed other members a towards ones around the same price.Keep an eye out around your area, Guaranteed one will come up.

Yes you will no doubt need a code - £10

It can be from any VAG format but they differ in start up screens and led colours but all will work.

No steering wheel controls shouldn’t be an issue.

Yes, you will need a DAB Ariel, GPS reciever and microphone if not included In your purchase. GPS reciever goes in behind the top glove box.

Nope , No Android auto.

Not sure of your area but there’s one sitting there at £130 on my first search, albeit VW.

That's  the risk you take with buying anything second hand online, Particular from eBay/gumtree/Facebook. Mines certainly wasn't stolen.

See 'Basic Radio for Fabia 2007' thread just posted by nr26410 a few moments ago. He is looking for a swing to swop for a sony DAB.

Ahh edit, beat me to it.
