Temperature gauge needle / stepper motor

Featured Replies

Would anyone know how I can strip down my cluster to access and change the stepper motor (Or just motor) of the temperature gauge? Mine appears to of failed.

Ran VCDS on it, all other needles move, just not the temperature needle. It's been apart before, but I cannot see how to gain access to the motors and didn't want to break something in the process of trying.

Its an 05 Octi hatch, non maxi-dot cluster.

Can't help you on that level of detail but you may already be aware, there is one or two electronic repairs who can probably recondition the unit via postal service. If you can do without the car for a few days. A few appear on here fairly regularly and most people seem to be happy with the service.

Also this may be relevant although the photos no longer work.

Buy up the cheapest secondhand cluster of same part number you can find. Learn how things come apart on that one and salvage the relevant motor. Then remove dodgy one from your cluster...

Good suggestion. I have done that a few times for various repairs mostly electronics outside of cars.
