Advantages of a dealer service

Featured Replies

I took my Roomster to a very reliable independent garage for a minor service of oil, filter change and a replacement pcv valve. The cost was reasonable and less than a Skoda dealer would charge. Next time is a major service which I am contemplating to allow the dealer to carry out because rightly or wrongly do they do a simple diagnostic check to confirm that all sensors and engine management settings are at optimum which perhaps an independent garage would not do?

I doubt it very much, the little experience I've had of main dealers is they do the minimum required and no more.

Simply ask the independent and reliable garage mechanic if they have a suitable diagnostics machine and fault code reader and will they use it.

It is a pretty poor establishment if it does not have a device as used by Professionals.

Skoda Dealerships in the UK mostly have moved on from Minor / Interim & Major services to Oil & Inspection Services and then every 3 years the Extended Scope.

So not much being done and over and above the price of an Oil & Inspection Service and the Extended Scope you pay for the parts over and above the Oil, Filter and sump plug.

There will be Non Participating Dealerships. and those that might charge less.

£99 for plugs? Is that based on a V8? Many engines are 3-cylinder now although mine is a 4-pot. That £139 for aircon service is a rip-off as it was £79 up until recently for the older refrigerant.

Some cars have 3 spark plugs and 2.8 litre oil capacity, and some will be 4 plugs and 5.7 litres of oil.

That is just how crazy Skoda Fixed Price Servicing and Maintenance has been for a long time now.

I've just paid three times that for plugs in my V8!

Plugs are so easy to change in the Roomster it's a 15 minute job including making a coffee. Id never pay any to change them. I would probably do all the maintenance myself, it's such a simple car.
