Skoda Fabia DSG issue

Featured Replies

Hi There,

I have a 2014 Skoda Fabia TSI with DSG gearbox and the vehicle is missing on the 5th , 6th and 7th gear when going over 80kmh

I have changed the gearbox oil but still have the same issue.

Anyone had the same issue?

TIA

Did both oils get changed?   No matter if they did as you need to have the fault diagnosed, is it the MCU, gear selector or something else.   ? Did your car need and get service campaign recall action '34H5' carried out.  A software update started in 2017 on DQ200's from 2013-2015.

You mean the mineral oil Vs synthetic oil for DSG, dealers did a lot under recall. Didn't know you could do it yourself.

Of course you can change the oil yourself. It's not harder than a normal gear oil change (it even uses manual gearbox oil since it a manual box). The mechatronics just uses standard hydraulic oil too.

Thought DSG oil was only supposed to be done by dealer as sealed unit? it's not in service schedule, was wondering as other than wrong oil to start with, what instigates an oil DSG change, mileage say 100,000miles or age, some of these VRS MK2 as per mine are now 10 years old.

The Unit is not sealed anymore than anything else that is said to be sealed. You open the filler, you open the drain plug.

Dealership techs are not magicians.

A Dealership tech or fitter is no different from a DIY'r doing it.

Oil for the Box and oil for the MCU.   There are description how it is done in the Mk3 section and the General Maintenance section.

I hate that term "sealed for life". All that means is that the manufacturer doesn't have a service interval "for the life of the vehicle". In their eye the vehicle has a life of 3 or 4 years (most lease periods).

It's just the same as manual gearboxes (it is in effect a manual gearbox). I've changed the gear oil in all my cars whether they are manual or automatic. And the manuals have always had black horrible oil in.

I will be changing mine at some point. In my mind they're not designed to work with dirty oil!

It isn't dirty, it's oxidation of the sulphides in the additive pack that make it black.

Think long and hard about the conditions inside a gearbox, there's no heat, no corrosive combustion gases, the oil is not pumped, there are bearings not bushes, the oil gets splashed about and only ever comes into contact with shiny, clean steel components.

That's why it doesn't need changing, compared to engine oil it's on holiday in the gearbox, the gearbox itself is sealed so no contamination can get in either.

How does it get dirty? It doesn't.

Sealed with Synthetic oil from 2009-2012 and then a World Wide Recall in 2012 excluding Europe, then eventually a Service Campaign in Europe to remove the Synthetic Oil for Mineral and do a software update. From 2014 in the UK.  Many DQ200's are not done as there was a VW Group Recall Action but no DVSA Recall. '34F7'

No recall action / service campaign on late 2012-early 2013 ones that have had quite a few failures.

Then in 2017 there is another Service Campaign with no Recall Actions on some DQ200's from 2013-2015 as a preventative measure die to failing boxes / leaks.

'34H5'.

Then there are TPI's covering DQ200's from 2015 on.  Clutch pack upgrades and Software Updates.

Another recall started in Australia on DQ200's from 2009-2015/16 last year for the same issues as '34H5' was started for.
