Remote locking on an FL

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, so you may have seen the Octavia family has grown by 1 and it’s a very basic one with no remote locking. It’s a late 2011 with a BCM 1K0 937 085 L and 46 CCM shows no communication. So my question is, how do you retrofit remote locking to a car with a BCM? I understand on older cars you change the CCM for one with RCL support and code the keys but is this the case with the BCM? Is this BCM capable of RCL support? If so, how does the coding differ from older cars? All advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Have you looked at the coding options for the body control module to see if the central locking could be activated?

Maybe its a BCM for lower spec cars and a CCM for higher spec ones containing all the features of the BCM plus the ACL etc?

A case of removing the BCM and replacing with a CCM and recoding?

I can’t remember off hand if it mentioned remote locking in the coding. Think it did but I’ll have to double check.

Pre-FL cars would have a separate CECM and CCM but all the FL cars should have a BCM which combines the functions of both in a single module.

Address 46 is a 'virtual module' so although it appears, there is no coding/adaption - everything needs to be done via 09.

@SashaGrace - I have a old/spare remote fob I can send you to check if your current BCM just need recoding :)

You would also need to add antenna wire to the bcm

Another thing to consider if you change the bcm are the rear doors

Some BCMs control the rear door locking and some use the LIN from the front doors for locking

I didn't think the BCM needed an antenna wire?

I thought it was part of the PCB or at least it has been on the ones I've taken apart and the spare I have here.

If the BCM does support remote locking or if it is changed then the wire will need to be added or the remote range will be very short

It shows up as R47

But do the 2010 onward cars with BCM have the ability to learn new fobs for locking via VCDS? Can only find info on the 09 or earlier cars. Thanks everyone.

I just checked a BCM I have here and there is no pin 41 in connector C.

Just as an example from eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184480254453 that also doesn't have seem to have pin 41 fitted on connector C :wondering:

The pinout I have matches yours but it appears at least some BCM versions don't have that pin fitted...

Just had a look at various build combinations and years and some cars use the extra wires for the remote control and some don't.

Pulled my passenger side A-Pillar trim off and couldn't see the wire in the loom.

Looked at 1K0 937 085L on the parts program only shows replacement to be used 1K0 937 087AB

has PR-Codes 4R0, 4R4 and 4R5

no info about remote control

Massive thanks to @langers2k for sending me a key, it works!! Dad is much happier with this and the leather steering wheel so now I just need to get him a blade and get the immo chip out and he’ll have a fully functional remote key.

What did you do in the end to enable the function Sasha?

Coding as the older cars in 46 but in 09, so Adaptation channel one, enter one and save and hit the open button on the key.

So no new module required?

Nothing at all :)

They must have deliberately left it off the lower spec car to force people to choose & pay for a higher spec together with stuff that they probably didnt really want or need, the saving to them of not enabling it is the extra cost of 2 remote keyfobs, probably a couple of quid  to them.

A great result though, I wonder how many people are driving around without realising their car has factory fitted unenabled extras?

It could be any of us especially with poverty spec vehicles like mine.

Apologies for the thread resurrection. My driver's side door lock has failed (barrel spinning).  Instead of replacing the lock, I'm thinking of trying to add a remote fob (present key is just a dumb non-remote) and program with VCDS:  2012 1.6.TDI Octy estate, similar to this thread - but wondering if anyone can advise on what type of remote fob I might need? Cheers!

For anyone who is interested. I managed to program a remote fob to my car (massive thanks to Langers2K for suggesting what model of key I might need). I bought a cheap 2nd hand car fob from eBay and it's working just fine. So now I have the added function of a remote fob - which I never had previously, and I saved my self the money of getting a new drivers door barrel and the time and effort of changing the barrel. I'm quite happy using the remote, and the passenger door lock if the remote stops working at any point.
