Skoda Kamiq driving seat height

Featured Replies

Like other drivers here I find that the maximum seat height on the Kamiq is on the low side, especially when parking or other manoeuvres where space is tight.  I had a test drive before buying and also sat in a demo model at another dealer's and the seat height seemed OK.  I wonder if electric height adjustable front seat has a higher maximum height than the manually adjustable version.  In addition, the fact that as you raise the manually adjusted seat height the seat moves rearwards goes some way to negate the increase in height, but in fairness to Skoda, this happens with other makes.

Browsing eBay recently, I came across this item:

and wondered if anyone had tried this solution (it certainly seems popular with Range Rover users in the feedback).   I wonder, too, if there are implications as regards warranty and insurance.

I'd imagine most insurers would not like modifications to the seat, but most would happily take a higher premium from you. Might be worth asking a broker for ideas on the impact of such a modification.

Suspect many people wouldn't declare them which runs the risk of invalidating the policy.

The warranty is an interesting one. A few years ago I asked SEAT whether fitting a dashcam would invalidate the warranty and the answer was it wouldn't unless it did. I was a little baffled at the response so left it. I think if you have an issue in that area you may need an independent inspection to prove the modification didn't cause the issue. Bear in mind there's often a lot of electrics under the seats for airbags and seatbelt tensioners.

As low tech as it sounds, in the years before height adjustment was common, my mum had a thick cushion to sit on. Not what you want in a new car, but if you have one, it's a way of checking whether that difference is right for you before committing.

I'm using the low tech solution at the present, but it isn't ideal.

Hi, I agree about Kamiq seat height.   I checked out the Ebay link for the seat risers and discussed with the supplier. They are specially designed with longer steel screws and spacers which give you an extra 3cm and lots of kamiq owners have purchased them he said. I am trying to contact someone who has fitted them - reviews on Ebay all look very good so I am tempted and cost only £20 a set for one seat. Widely used on other cars like Landrover Discovery apparently. Its just the warranty and insurance issues that worry me. Otherwise I will just continue using a wedge seat cushion that partly does the same job. Any thoughts from anyone?

I have now largely got round the issue by using a high (11 degree) wedge firmish (not memory foam) seat  raiser cushion off Ebay which has given me a much better position and raised me 2-3 inches.

Thank you for that information. 2-3 inches will be about right for me, too, I think.

I see there are a number of these shown on eBay which look interesting.  Did you go for the cut out on non cut out version?

Thanks for this post which I've only just come across (no email notification of it),

I bought one without a cut out on amazon a couple of years ago for another car (there are several around £20 on there now.) Because Kamiq was still a bit lower than I wanted I have added a softer cut out cushion on top with gripping underside so it doesn't slide around and that is now just right for me. Mind you I do have a lot of back issues after surgery a while ago so you probably will only need the one 11 degree wedge with or without a cut out depending on how your back is. At least with Amazon you can send back if not right. Good luck

Thanks for the info.  There seem to be very mixed reviews on some of these products/sellers, so I'll stick to the foam cushion inner I've been using for the moment.

I raised the seat height issue with my dealer recently and received this answer:

"

As for the seat and this sounds daft, but drop the seat all the way down slide it to the most rear position then lift the seat up as far as it goes then move back forward. This does make a difference on the Fabia. They don’t lift as far when they are all the way forward."

I have tried this, and it works on the Kamiq too - the seat is higher.  Whether it is high enough for everyone's needs, of course, depends on the individual.

Not every car will suit every driver, it’s nothing new.  For me, the Kamiq driving height/position is perfect.  I’m 6’1 for reference.

Which is exactly why this thread was started, and your height explains why you find the seat height OK.

I’m well aware why this thread was started, I only added my contribution as a reference for those who may be thinking about getting the Kamiq.

My apologies, but the introduction to your post did make it appear redundant.

The introduction was meant for those who weren’t aware, because not everyone is, but no worries mate👍
