Cruise Control intermittent cut out

Featured Replies

I've got a head-scratcher and was hoping to enlist the help of the veterans out here.

My cruise control has been cutting out on the high way randomly for the last two weeks.

No warning, No errors. Can't find anything out of the ordinary except for the fact that it cuts out.

I can resume the cruise control once it cuts out. But its annoying as hell.

I am speculating that one of the sensors in the pedal might be out of whack giving false positives making the car think i touched the brake or clutch pedal.

But before i start ripping everything apart, Has anyone dealt with this problem before ?

Any information would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

If the brake pedal switch is factory original I would expect that's responsible (purely on the basis that they don't seem to quite last the lifetime of these cars, and it is used in that system).  Quite cheap to buy genuine replacements here, let me know if they're weirdly expensive in your country and I'll post you a spare one I have.

A quick search shows that a replacement switch is around €68 around here. Or £77

Bloody Hell!

£11 here when I last bought one, admittedly a few years back. PM me.

I messed up. That's the entire pedal assembly including sensor. The sensor itself costs. Around 10 euro's.

Ah, that makes more sense. :)

Not really looking into firing the parts cannon at it. But for 10 euro's its worth a shot. Might as well get a clutch sensor as well while i am down there. If only for peace of mind.

I guess you could run some logs of the engine ECU's 'view' of the brake pedal switch and see if you get false switch activations corresponding with the cruise oddities? And/or the Central Electrics module view of the brake light switch. (Think I've remembered those right, apologies if not).

At that exchange rate I will buy as many £'s as you can sell me :D

Or I can simply wait a year and thats what the rate will be

I switched out the conversion the wrong way around. 1 euro is 0.90 GBP not 1.10. That's pound to euro's.

So thats £61 not £77.

I'm on a roll tonight...
