Title change

What, they just open on their own (like using the fob) or is it an automatic temperature control???

Yes when the open button on the fob pushed down they open it's happened a coupl of times when they have been in my pocket. They have been open all night.

Well unfortunately I cannot answer your query but as for Ideas....... possibly not the kind of idea you were thinking of but maybe put your keys somewhere safe when you get home / work, rather than keep them in your pocket so this does not happen in the meantime, before hopefully someone can give you the permanent solution....

I'm sure you sussed this out for yourself tho after it happening a few times.

Good luck with it.

do you have maxi dot?

im pretty sure you can disable this through the menus but i'll check when i'm back at the car failing that if memory serves me correctly you can remove 'global opening' from the coding at this will stop opening/closing  from the key fob

Just jumping in here I have the opposite problem. I'd love my windows to open and close on the fib but mine don't.....? Its a 59plt vrs without maxidot. Should these operate on the fob...

Is there a quick fix or it a coding in problem..?

Thanks

if you don't have it currently it will need to be coded in

So the facility is there..? It just needs activating... Would you know if I can do it with carista and a Bluetooth obdii plug in.

Thanks

yeah should be able to activate it, not sure about carista or a standard ob2 - I have a carista in the car i'll have a look later

not possible in carista so you will need VCDS to change the coding

I had this problem with the windows opening when I sat on the fob.

I now take the keys out of my pocket when I sit down.

Not so. The reason I bought the Carista app was to set up the DRLs on my 2012 car. Cars from 2011/2012 came with DRLs fitted but not activated as the law requiring them was not yet in force. Using the Carista app I activated the DRLs and then switched them on using the left hand stalk procedure shown in the handbook. Worked first time and easy to do.

Equally, if you wish to activate/deactivate the long press for window opening, you can do that too on these models using the app. If you don't like the feature then you can turn it off.

In addition to opening the windows with a long press, it automatically gives you the same feature by using the lock/unlock switch in the centre of the car. This is particularly useful in the summer to dump warm air after the car has been stood in the sun. So, get in the car, start the engine and drive away then make a long press on the unlock side of the switch. All four windows open and and the hot air is sucked out. A minute or so later make a long press on the switch to close all the windows again just as the air-con starts to work.

From the Carista app I have copied below the related windows features you might find useful.:-

Enable settings for opening/closing windows and sunroof  Yes / No

Open/close windows and sunroof via long-press on remote Yes / No
Open/close windows and sunroof by turning and holding key in door lock   Yes / No
Open sunroof via long-press on remote Yes / No
Close sunroof via long-press on remote Yes / No
Blink turn signals when done closing windows via remote Yes / No
Open only driver's window via long-press on remote Yes / No
Allow power window operation after ignition is turned off Yes / No

had a proper look this morning, perhaps it was because the engine was running or i'm blind but I totally missed all these menus yesterday, you're quite right you can change these settings for the windows etc.

''it automatically gives you the same feature by using the lock/unlock switch in the centre of the car''

I never knew this, worked in my car :)

Crikey Pikpilot you are a bit of a legend at this... I'll have a look today. I've got the blue obdii connection it came with a disc but I assume you leave that to one side. I noticed you mentioned 'purchased' . I assume that the free crista won't give me access to the window option....?

Thanks for your advice. I assume I cant mess things up too much...

Ignore the disc and use one of the paid for apps, or one of the free trial apps. I was lucky in that, as an early user, I now have free updates on Carista but I believe new users now have to pay a yearly fee. However, it is probably the best app for VAG cars.

It is unlikely that you will mess up irretrievably with these owner targeted apps, but you can do so with professional programs such a VagCom as the authors assumed you have a greater depth of knowledge.

Hi thanks for commenting I haven't got menus got it sorted EGR valve went on it luckily it was covered under emissions recall thank god got them to switch it off for free else they were going to charge me £30.

Carista has mentioned my odii isnt working or is a basic unit. I have now bought a better one so will wait for it to arrive.

Would the free Carista App have the option still to remotely open the windows..?

My understanding is that the free trial is now only available if you buy the (expensive) Carista OBD2 reader.

If you download the app it will ask you choose one of three payment options. At that point it may give you a trial???

I wonder if I have the free trial then...? I can open the app and it gives me 3 options. It also asks me what obd2 bluetooth device I have. It claimed to have read 1 ecu assuming my van as a the tester as black housing around octys was too tight to get reader in..? Could you recommend any other apps..?

Thankyou

Not sure what you are trying to say.

Yes, the diagnostic port is a tight fit on the plug-in unit. The bigger problem is pulling it out!!

There are no other apps that I am aware off that are dedicated to VAG vehicles and can make changes to optional features.

Is not the question in the app about the type of OBD2 unit, asking whether you want to connect by WiFi or Bluetooth.

Hi yes sorry,

I put the app on my phone probably 2 months ago. I then bought one of the cheap see through blue odb2 bluetooth readers.

On my car 2009 octy vrs it was a struggle pushing the bulky blue unit onto the plug.

So to test it I placed it on my van to ateast see it it worked. In carista as you mention it asked what unit I was using so I selected bluetooth. I selected the option mode customise. It began communicating but then said my unit is a basic model that wouldn't do what I wanted it may do only diagnostics.

I repeated but with choosing diagnostics and that didn't work.

It starts communicating as the green light on the unit was flashing. Carista then said it was faulty/basic unit that wasn't Compatible.

I've since bought a viecar 'dongle' now so let's see...?

My question I guess is by virtue of the fact its not asking me for money but at least giving me the option of diagnose customise or service; can I assume this means I have the same access as you. I also noticed it is. Letting help them trial the beta version of the new software..?

Many Thanks

I believe you now have to pay to get customisation.

In the HELP section of their website it talks as though customisation is in the PRO version;  a paid for choice at start up.
