Front end sitting up

Featured Replies

Hi folks

Should the front end be sitting up so high?

Is it 4x4?

Or has your engine been nicked?

?

Are those front tyres the same size as the rears?

The backend looks low compared to mine. My dimensions from floor to arch are 68.5 cm rear, 68.2 front. Have you got any weight in the back?

Your rear springs are shagged, the car is dragging its ar5e like a dog with worms :D

Remove the bodies from the boot and take another picture.

So apart from the dead bodies - the tyres are all the same, the back seats are flat and it’s got tools in it around 50kg max, evenly distributed.

The car drives well ish but spins quite easily from a launch.

Not sure what’s going on to be honest. I’ve had it 6 weeks and only recently noticed.

It’s not a 4x4. 2.0d SEL DSG on 66 plate.

As per @J.R. I would say your rear springs are knackered. Take your tools out and check the measurements. Is there any signs of it having been used for towing? What's the mileage?

The car overall though looks level and normal. My vRS has a larger arch gap at the front.

No evidence of tow bar. Mileage 46k.

Rear 650mm Front 673 with the tools still in.

I will try and empty it later to get a better reading

I have a 2015 scout, the boot has a steel spare with full size tyre and I tow, normally 4 to 5 times a year. I have noticed recently that there is a very slight difference between the clearance at the front and back. Will opt for some stiffer springs when I am able.

I also have a full size spare.

Mine has as well, steel.

I think I am right in saying that the scout has stiffer springs anyway, however despite this over time they have definitely sagged slightly. Probably normal, and hopefully easily fixed.

If it's standard rear suspension, beam axle, like the Fabia, I know it's a doddle. If it's multilink, I've no idea.

See, perfectly normal. :D

Well aside from all the funny ones, mine has done something similar from new, it used to bother me now I am done with it.

They tend to do that, there is a fairly large tolerance on the factory ride height and quite a few octavias have the front at the upper limit and the rear at the lower limit.

Because it is within limits no-one is officially interested. I will correct it one day when I replace the suspension. Just waiting to get my use out of the standard crap first.

Yours does look worse than mine but not by much,

Had a mechanic put it up on a ramp today and said all is well but if I wanted to put stiffer towing springs in the rear it would do no harm.

Not sure where to get these.

What colour dots are on each of the four springs? This would enable you to identify what OEM part numbers the springs are. If someone has changed any of the springs they might not have coloured dots on them. To make it easier, you could just check the left springs or the right springs for the coloured dots, and assume the other side is the same.
