rear exhaust

Featured Replies

i have a 15vrs diesel . i removed the dpf and deleted it and the egr . got it maped . made a great diference on power . its still sounds the same .

The golf gtd has a resenator on the back box which activates when its put in sport mode and it makes a much better sound .

is this avaible on the vrs ?

or what rear box would be advised

Golf GTD doesn't have any "resonator back there", it has small sound actuator under the right wiper, which puts a little juice to the sound when you have "driving mode selection" option in your car set to Sport. Such an option exists in Škoda, but previous owner of your car obviously hasn't configured it - as it is useless for such a car anyway in the first place, but a little more sound and a stiffer steering wheel.

My advice, don't bother.

I think the Kodiaq vRS has a feature in the exhaust system to produce an external noise, as opposed to the fake internal noise of the sound aktor. That has the 2L BI TDI engine though.

Many years ago I had the original Fabia vRS with a turbo back Blueflame exhaust and sports cat. It sounded ok on boost but had the normal, dull 4 cylinder diesel noise at idle and pottering around.

A few cars later was an Astra CDTI 150 and I fitted a K&N 57i. Whilst it was probably detrimental to performance, the sound inside the cabin was surprisingly good - loud turbo whistle and chatter when lifting off the accelerator. Might be worth a look if you're desperate!

As someone who had a mk7 GTD, it does not have the sound actuator as standard on the exhaust. It was an option as part of Sports and Sound Pack. It is positioned under the passenger side and is activated when in sports mode. All it does is make the car sound even more like a tractor IMO :P

You would have to source that part, connect it to the ECU and program, pain in zee backside for the sake of a more "dieselly" exhaust note.

the link is spot on thats what i was on about . just a speaker  in exhaust so . no power gain what so ever . thanks for that .

any advive on what rear box to get for a better sound plus power gain

No worries mate, when I had my GTD I had a miltek non resonated system fitted, it made a slight difference, strangely it sounded OK during DPF regeneration when it got really hot or after a longer drive, other wise it was just a deep bass sound. I imagine similar will fit the octavia just with a longer centre section?

You will never get a diesel to sound particularly good. The only diesel i have owned that sounded anywhere near decent was my Fabia mk1 VRS with a full milltek turbo back with sports cat exhaust. That sounded very deep when cruising but nice on acceleration. Sadly most diesel cars I have heard with resonators removed sound like tractors or lorries. No way around it but diesels always will sound agricultural as opposed to sporty.

I'd qualify that by saying "4 cylinder diesel"

My bro in law has a new S4 (3.0 V6 TDI) and they have some sort of similar system to the Kufatec linked above as standard, sounds awesome IMHO.

However it is artificial noise rather than natural. Diesels are very one noted by design.

The link below compares normal then how it sounds with the Kufatec on different modes.

True the Kufatec creates artificial noise.

This is natural V6 TDI noise though, albeit amplified by a custom exhaust and DPF delete:

The I6, V6 and some I5 diesels do sound good! But still not as pleasing as most of the petrol equivalents. I say most because the M3s / M4s sound terrible in my opinion.
