Tyre wear. Octavia mk3

Featured Replies

Hi. New owner of 2018 Octavia 1.0 tsi. Great car and engine. Car has what look like original Dunlop’s fitted. 14,000 miles and tyres look well worn on fronts. I’d guess maybe another 5000 miles before on limit. Any thoughts on typical tyre life for this model??

Thanks.

ps. I’m used to working as a rep and 30k motorway miles a year. Used to getting about the same out of my tyres. Typically Michelin’s.

I would front-back swap them as soon as possible (I always suggest 13,000 miles).  Not sure what your current tyre depth is, but they start around 7mm and should aim to swap them before fronts wear to 4mm.   Should then get about 28k miles from the set.   Ideally you need min 3mm tread to be able to drive safely through puddles

If the wear is uneven (more on shoulders etc) then get a front wheel alignment done.  Also good practice to check the tyre pressures at intervals as wrong pressure affects wear.

Remember the original tyres are summer tyres, not really the best for UK climate, when you need to change them, I suggest you put all seasons on instead.  If you want recommendation I would suggest Goodyear vector 4 seasons generation 3
