Skoda recall info

Featured Replies

SKODA KAROQ 1.5 PETROL AUTOMATIC (BOUGHT MAY 2019, NEVER BEEN BACK TO GARAGE 4820 MILES ON CLOCK, 36.9/MPG FROM START)

I’m in dispute at the moment with Garage re-servicing. I decided to cancel the service and when I was on the phone I was informed there was a recall on the car. Didn’t say what for so I checked out to see if there was a recall and there was. I phoned Garage back and asked what the recall was for and was informed it was engine management software, asked when this was put on the record didn’t get a reply. What I would like to know is,

  • When was this recall issued
  • Why was I not informed
  • What is the recall for, and is the car dangerous or something to do with the very poor fuel consumption 36.9mpg (I’m not a boy racer and a very steady driver)

the servicing dispute will be posted on another topic and the above would not have come to light if I had not had a problem getting the car serviced

Welcome.

Call Skoda UK Customer Services and have a Communications Manager call you back.

So there was a DVLA RECALL.

In some cases it may not be a RECALL, (A dealership person says there was 'Recall' yet you were never contacted.

so because of no contact the cars are not RECALLED.   Really they are 'Service Campaigns.

Skoda's lost in translation have 'Recall Actions', unless a DVLA SAFETY CRITICAL RECALL.

Is your car one that qualifies under a Safety Recall?

this is where the DVLA give VW Group UK the Registered keepers details.

Thanks e-roottoot for the quick reply, I’m going out now but will check when I get back

So is this a DVLA safety recall or more likely a dealer service campaign that would have been carried out at the cars 1st service that was due in May 2020 that you cancelled?

Owners / Keepers need to be aware of this in the Manufacturers Warranty re Recalls.

Remember and tell them.

'I had to contact you due to the fact there are Recalls or Recall Actions and you never bothered telling me until the car was going to be coming in'.

They should not be updating peoples cars and if the car is worse than when it goes in they shrug their shoulders like they are French Car Makers.

Hi

ive checked the above links and it is not a safety recall but a recall campaign. I spoke to the service people and was informed in it was engine management software update that was required, they did’ ent actually say why it was needed only that software gets updated like in does on a PC and that thee engine management system is a computer. What or how it affects the performance, or lack of, i am still non the wiser.

@PenguinRemember that 'Honesty' is not always what you get from Dealership or Customer Services Staff.

Best ask in writing what Service Campaign action the car requires and what the TPI is for it.

*It is not covered by DATA PROTECTION or any other such thing.  You own the car, drive the car and are responsible for the cars well being and safety.

The Dealership Employees are responsible for you and the public's and their safety and there is the Corporate Responsibility of the VW Group,

so that means 'hiding stuff under the excuse of 'Confidentiality' or just because they think it is none of your business is not on.*

Have the reply in writing from whoever, with their name & job title.

As it is when you have issues they might no longer be there, they might have moved back to serving in McDonalds or whatever.

A SVQ in Call Centre Skills, or reception work might qualify them in that, but their knowledge of vehicles or VW vehicles might not be that much if anything.

?

So this RECALL does not involve a car with your build date.

For the Software Update of Engine Management, or the checking of the seat frame?

Seems like it is 24EU which was supposed to get rid of the surging when the engine is started from cold and improves the low end torque. My car was updated about 2 months ago - MY19 SE L DSG - registered in October 2018.  Mostly the DSG compensates for the lack of low end torque but it was a real problem on  manual cars. Once it was done, I did notice that the gearbox would allow acceleration in a higher gear rather than change down as often. Noticeable coming out of roundabouts. Sadly it had only a very marginal effect if that on petrol consumption which is currently running at 40.71mpg since new with around 20,000 miles on the clock.

It worth having the update done, but, for DSG cars, it was not a safety issue.

My dealer did not tell me about it either but I knew of the update because it was a very live topic on the forum last year.

@Teds

There has been a DQ200 DSG safety issue though, and that is for the drivers that have lost drive.

So not related to the 'hesitation' but they have had Software Updates to the DSG.  There are even member here that got rid of vehicles and lost money because of that.
