I bought a 1996 N reg 1.3 SPI Felicia for

With the temp guage I would say its the coolant temp sensor.

If the heater is still working then it could be down to that.

Dont know about the groan.

But temp sensor is easy and cheap.

I have got an R plate Felicia here for sale for £500 diesel.

I will put 12 month MOT on that.

Not alot to make them fail so you have a bargain

My thermostat gave up the ghost and yes the fact your heater can singe your eyebrows off still is no sign that it is not your thermostat, as with mine the thermostat when totally smegged up and well I have no eyebrows if ya see what I mean.

Personally I would change the whole housing, it also comes with a temp sensor, so two jobs in one (Also will save
