Bolero to Amundsen or Columbus

Featured Replies

OK, several years later on this topic which was posted in the Mark II section.

My 2013 Superb was totaled last week, managed to get a 2018 Octavia but it hasn't got satnav or CD player, there is a dummy front in the glove compartment for the CD. It has a Bolero fitted and I want to fit either the Columbus or Amundsen for the navigation. Now for the question noting it is a 2018 model estate, can I fit them, is the wiring in place and what else do I need to think about. Get me out of this problem before my 8 year old grandaughter kills me for not having a CD.

The unit in glovebox isn't a dummy. It's the main unit. You'll need to replace that with a Columbus I think to get a cd player.

-fit unit

-pay dealer to remove component protection

-send unit off for coding

-done

Or just pay for a streaming service and use carplay/Android auto.

-copy granddaughters cd's to sd card:biggrin: Amundsen Mib 2 has two slots one for Nav and one spare.

You can connect a phone via Bluetooth and use the phones music player (perhaps you've already done that?) or as quoted apple carplay or Android Auto but to use that platform you'll need the units Smartlink activated via a dealer @~£150 depending on dealer. There was a thread a few weeks back on its pros and cons.

If you want the Nav to work you'll need a Genuine Skoda sd card else it will not work as there is an encrypted file on them.

I'm not sure how you would download the latest maps  as the Skoda portal asks for the cars VIN to access the correct files and as your car did not have Nav to start with I wonder if you will be able to access them?

@SashaGraceis the resident expert in all thing infotainment related and is always very helpful.

As to costs, its not like buying a head unit in the the good old days for a couple of hundred! Probably more like upwards of £600, as to change the system out fully,  you'll need both the glovebox unit and the "screen" (which from what I've seen on here are plug and play). But it's certainly doable.

Mib2 screens are largely interchangeable. Mib1 versions require the matching units.

Should be fine with an mib2 Columbus unit.

Just realised the screen you have doesn't have nav button. Not sure how you would access nav without. @SashaGrace or @pab567 may have that answer.

Unit should be £400-600 (maybe)

CP removal £50-100 depending on dealer

Coding ~£200

@Chaindrive pls let us know model number and SW version of unit you currently have - you can check it in menu SETUP then SYSTEM INFORMATION.

Columbus is a solution for playing not only CDs but also DVDs and video files from pendrives and SD cards. It might be a bit expensive, especially if you want MIB2.5 as it requires 9.2" screen model number 5E091960D. However, if playing movies is not required, there is a cheaper solution to play CDs - I can rework SEAT unit to SKODA. They have CD drives. Contact me on PM if you are interested.
