Conversion from drum brakes to disc brakes.

Featured Replies

Hi guys! I was wondering how hard would be to do the conversion from drum brakes to discs brakes. My drums are failing and the subframe is pretty rusted, with holes. I managed to get a subframe with disc brakes and calipers. The only thing that I'm not sure is about the ABS. The drum brakes don't have them, as far as I know, but what about the new calipers? Can I run without the ABS? Also, does the Octavia I subframe match with one from the Golf4? (Cuz I can't to the conversion, I can sell it pretty fast)

Thanks in advance!

I think you'll find they do? Look for a two-wire connector on the backplate of the drum.

There are no wires, that's why im asking. Should there be any, or they dont have from the factory?

Dunno.

Done it on a 1.9 TDI without ABS, you need new handbrake cables and brake lines (I think in our case they were custom made).  Dunno about wiring, brake performance is great.
