Music media files on Amundsen

Featured Replies

I believe that no sd card slot is present anymore, so how am I supposed to play music files?

Using android car auto or a usb pen or drive?

USB pen drive will do fine.

Android Auto allows you just stream from net platforms.

:wall:   Another day, more fake news.

OP - Android Auto is much more than a streaming device. If you google 'Android Auto' and 'Music Apps' you'll see several ways you can play music stored on your phone. I'm using AIMP at the moment but I'd suggest you try others  - just pick whatever suits you.

Cars that no longer have SD card will of course have wireless Android Auto, which if you have a suitable phone, makes life simple.

In addition to what linni said, you also have the option of connecting via bluetooth on whatever device you want but IMO, the sound quality suffers using BT.

Hope that helps.

:)

What is wrong with you scottish guys? Bad weather? Lousy beer?

But it`s good to now you can play internal files from phone with Android Auto.

I use mostly Spotify or SD card. Or Tune In radio to listen to home stations when abroad.

Actually Android auto is the way to go for me, since it’s wireless on my 2021 and I’ve got the wireless phone box.

What's wrong with you Estonians? If you say Android Auto is only a streaming device, what that tells me is you have little or no experience of using Android Auto yourself. No reply is better than giving a wrong reply.

No, I have all the bells and whistles, I don`t have to use my phone with or without Android Auto to listen to storaged music.

And I believe it`s way easier to navigate in USB drive folders from Maxidot for example than from Android Auto.

Hi Linni,

I've been searching high and low on how to navigate through SD Card folders using the MaxiDOT display (with steering wheel controls). Can you please shed some light on this? I also like to have my music on a physical medium rather than play it via my phone.

I have the Amundsen system, but I doubt it is really much different than Columbus.

Cheers,

Toni

I have virtual cockpit but I guess the logics are pretty similar.

I have no problem navigating the SD card on virtual cockpit. Only thing I can remeber that there were limitations about the number of subfolders. Too many of them and the system cannot dig in.

Of you have any USB sockets in your car, they will work as a media source for a USB stick for example.

Thanks for the reply!

Not the same at all. Both the up/down and left/right steering wheel buttons do the same thing while playing SD/USB Mp3's with folders - change the track withing the folder, and nothing else. Nothing in the manual about that, and no voice commands for that type of navigation.

Now I have to retrofit a digital dash. And I really liked the combined one :)

It's very strange how can a VW group company miss something so trivial, a function that worked like a charm in my '12 Mondeo (and it doesn't seem complex to implement in the MaxiDOT).

It is what it is.

Cheers!

@toney_g Hold the horses, I will check mine tomorrow. I have the SD card on random play, so I don`t fiddle much with controls, but I am pretty sure you can navigate with steering wheel arrows through all the folders. It was the same on Superb II so would not rush to change the dash.

Checked the steering wheel arrows - all works fine.

Must be some glitch with your steering wheel or media carrier. Arrows work fine with other system commands? Have you tried USB drive yet? Exfat or NTFS file system? Start from the USB drive and see what happens.

@linni thanks for checking on your side.

Yes, the arrows work fine for all other functions, the folders are visible and can be navigated through the main display (via touch), and everything is "readable" in terms of data.

I will try with an USB stick.

I will also update the version of my MIB2 Amundsen (although is only a few minor versions behind), and post the results.

I've uploaded my issue to a Youtube video, showcasing the navigation problem.

If nobody has any suggestions on this issue, I plan to open a new thread.

Cheers

@linni I tried with an USB stick, same problem.

Check the video above.

Have you ever tried to press the most right button, folder / back? This will take you to the upper level in subfolders tree.

UPDATE.

I remembered wrong.

BACK button just takes you to the screen options on Maxidot.

But - have you ever scrolled up to the beginning of the tracklist? There will be an option "Up". You press it again and again, going upwards of the folder tree until you reach the option "sources". This is the root folder for your music library.

@linni Yes, I've tried scrolling up and down (it is really clicking back and cycling previous or next tracks), and depending on the direction it goes either to the last song in the previous folder, or the first song in the next folder.

It doesn't work like the radio station change (where I can literally scroll up and down through the station memory).

What happens if you scroll all trhe way up to the first song of the album? What do you see there on maxidot?

Very confusing. Like the button remapping is messed up.

Hi @linni , sorry for the delayed reply.

That just looks great (and just about right).

On the MaxiDOT, I don't get a list of the songs going up/down, it shows one song at a time and shifts to previous/next depending on whether you scroll up or down. In my video, I am doing the same as you, scrolling the right-hand wheel on the controls.

I do get a similar list like in your video when listening to Radio, with a list of stations, and you can easily choose which one you like / play.

Pity. I will update the Amundsen to the latest version these days, but I doubt it will be solved (the current one is not that old).

Cheers.

@toney_g Something is wrong there. In headunit. Must be corrupted software, I guess.

It worked in my Superb II on MIB 2 just like in Kodiaq. Only without fancy artwork.

So cannot be as there was some degradation on the development line.

Last idea is to take it to dealers and let full reset done with ODIS.

P.S. Haven`t checked, but is there something in playback settings like play the next/previous song when scrolling the roller? Just a blind shot.

@linni I took a while to do some additional research - meaning watching MaxiDOT videos on youtube. I found 3 videos which show exactly the same issue that I am facing (as normal operation), and no videos showing the song list/folder up or similar.

The videos were taken on Suberb mk3 (color maxidot), Octavia 2014 (monochrome maxidot) and a Yeti (monochrome maxidot).

I am starting to beleive that this indeed is by design. I updated my software version to latest with no change. I've now started to look for some coding option via ObdEleven to try to change this.

Will keep this thread updated with any result.

I had Superb II 2019, monochrome Maxidot, and all the folder system was there. MIB 2, not MIB 2,5 as first Kodiaqs have.

Must be some settings related thing. Not the car, but the phone/streaming device.

Ran out of ideas.
