Can a Fabia be used without the alarm module?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

First time poster, long time lurker! ;-)

I have a question - Can the alarm siren module be removed and the car still used?  Minus alarm, obviously.

A bit of background:-
My mother has not been using her 2014 Fabia 1.2 for months, so the battery went flat.  Upon reconnecing the negative lead, after charging the battery, the alarm sounded and would not be disarmed.  Not even with the fob.  Strangely, I could start the engine, so the immobiliser is not triggered.
The only way to silence the alarm was to disconnect the car battery again, but the alarm faded quite quickly...
Bit of research points to the battery in the alarm module being goosed, so I will be either changing the unit or attempting to replace the internal battery.  As the car is at my mum's place and not mine, I'd rather bring the unit home to pull it apart, so what will happen if I connect the car battery back up without the alarm unit?

Short and to the point, I like it.

Ta muchly!

Any differing opinions?

Most Fabia's alarm modules  just send a signal to  make a noise to siren, some were linked to the starter to stop engine turning over while alarm was sounding but it seems yours is ok, the key fob is the immobiliser so you could disconnect alarm and drive car with no issues, but don't leave it like this as insurance companies will refuse any claim for any sort of theft  if it's not working correctly

Just bin the alarm, it'll be fine without. :)

Or you could try removing its fuse (no. 20 in cabin, top row 4th from right) to see if that suffices.
