Here's a typical stretch of the A836 near me.

The centre of the road is good and you can drive at 60mph, but as the Landy shows, it's not wide enough to pass safely.  If you get off the tarmac at 50mph or so it does the tyres no good!

 

There are loggers lorries on this road too.  Also construction vehicles and big RVs.

Since the RVs are built for 'off road' surely they will give way to road cars?

Most are rentals and the drivers clueless.

Good old NC500, which someone, somewhere, thought was a good idea. 

@farty  What tyres did you go for in the end and was it the best tyres on the rear because the good lady is better with over steer rather than under steer?

I went with Bridgestone Turanza DriveGuards (run flats) in the end because the local guy could get them fairly quickly.  She says the car drives better but I did not notice any change.  But she does hurtle round corners as dog is thrown from side to side.

 

If these wear well I will fit them to the front eventually but those are both new.
