P15A100 Neutral gear sensor implausible signal.

Featured Replies

Catchy title, I know.

From my previous post you would see I was having trouble with the start stop system throwing an error. I got the fault code read today and it was:

P15A100 Neutral gear sensor implausible signal.

This links the following article:

Does anyone have any experience of this fault? The garage I took it too had never seen it before so were unable to give indication of cost or time to fix.

Thanks

So - this is not a good situation to be in.

The piece that the sensor is eluding is - is on the gear selector shaft.  Various folk have had problems here; anything from the collar disintegrating - to the collar itself becoming complete filled up with swaft, comprising the integrity of the sensor (ie an electrical or sensing short).

It means a repair to replace the gear selector shaft usually as a first call and will mean getting into the guts of the gearbox; you should go and investigate and find a specialist VAG and ideally a DSG repair specialist.

As you are in Gloucestershire, you might want to go and chat with these folk: https://www.bristoltransmissions.co.uk/transmissions/dsg-dct-transmission/common-issues/

Thanks. I thought it might be a bit of a pain. I don't have a DSG gearbox,  just the six speed manual.

Interesting....never seen this fault on a manual, but the principle still applies.  In that case, it will be less complex to fix, but it will still need further investigation and probably a new gear selector and sensor.

Did you ever happen to get this sorted? I've just had the same issues on my own MK3 VRS Manual, which ended up needing a simple repair of a nipped wire on the plug on the gear box, under the reverse light switch. I've attached an image of the plug with the nipped wire and the sensor on the gearbox

Hi, I have the same issue now with the neutral gear sensor.   I have a MK2 2012 1.2 TDI.  The slower up pictures are good to identify the part  where exactly is it located?  I saw a vw video and it seems you need to remove the battery compartment to access, not sure if it's the same location.

Photos are of my own... I didn't need to remove the battery box or anything, this was located at the front of the gearbox, should be the lower of two sensors I think with the upper one being the reverse light switch, and was easily accessible from above, I will get a photo in abit and post here to show location better. However as my own was a MK 3 I'm not sure if it's a similar layout or if there was any changes in terms of getting access etc.

Had a look, on my own MK3 manual,  to get access from above I had to remove the air fliter box rather thsn the battery box then it is straight down practically looking at you towards the front right if the gear box...

Thanks,  I'll have a look and take some photos
