Few repairs and mods...

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

So I want to make this car last as long as possibly can.... it's an 11 plate Fabia and it's a really basic model. Need some recommendations and help! I've listed a few things below

Mods:

I've replaced the radio which i'm extremely happy with so no need to recommend this.

automatic lights - I would like an automatic light switch for the headlights.... any thoughts?

Any other recommendations to modernise the car are welcome!

Repairs/upgrades

The exterior door pill trim is looking very sorry for itself however I am not sure how to define or where to look for this stuff.... any clues?

Replacement Badges - I would like to swap these over from the old green logo to the chrome ones if possible(is it? inc alloys)

Paint - This one is a tricky one.... my car is white however from what I read Halfords version of it isn't the correct white

Door Looms - My car central locking has stopped working on the driver door... my guess is it's the wires (i've already fixed them before) is there anyway to get longer wires and replace the loom?

Disclaimer: People may look at me like.... why not just buy a new car? Well that isn't possible for me as I am the only one working, and I don't have cash laying around. To be perfectly honest, I like my car and I would rather keep it going until it fires its last piston!

The badges are very easy to swap over as for the paint if you are just touching up or small repairs get your Paint code and try paints 4 u recently used them and they matched my Skoda Rallye green perfectly

Badges are dead easy to do and touch up just requires a steady hand. You can get stick on badges for the wheels which is what I did. I also got skoda valve caps for it too which I think look smart. I was considering putting the new logo badges on mine but I felt that the old logo badges set the car off better, mine's white too and it being a monte carlo I felt I should have a bit of colour on the car such as the green on the old badging. I personally have had good success with the stick on badges from wish. They look like the real deal on it and take a bit of age off the car (the old wheel badges were pitted and corroded to hell).

Yeah my wheel badges were not the best either.so just popped them out and painted them

Heres some pics of the stick on jobs for reference. Much better than the mottled old badges beneath and well worth the few euro I paid for them on Wish.

Pic of the old badge too for comparison.

Easily replaceable centre caps can be had for a similar price to the stickers and are not hard to swap. The beauty is you can revert to the older ones, should you wish. The caps just pop in/pry off or pop off from the rear, if the wheel is off the car.

Auto lights have gone cheaper too, of late. Be sure to get the correct switch if buying seperately. Some come complete, some need the switch and you may need to check the size of the plugs. (I had to sell on an auto light controller as it was the wrong size, prior to fitting mine). I have an original Skoda switch from a Yeti, I think, which is the correct colour for Skoda. VW switches are usually red lights, Skoda are green. You could change the window switches for ones with the little chrome bit for a modest cost, looks a little nicer.Sunglasses holder for the roof, where there is usually just a blank panel. Nice little touch is buffers for the grab handles, that make them go slowly to the roof, eliminating the "Slam". Simple, cheap mod, there!

Any soundproofing you can do will be nice, if you plan to keep driving it. Under bonnet cover, if not already there, plus many others you fancy.

Centre arm rests are nice on longer journeys and can sometimes be found on eBay for around £50 for a genuine one. I wouldn't fit an aftermarket one, myself.
