Amundsen, Colmbus or Belero

Featured Replies

I recently purchased a used 2018 Skoda Octavia M.3 1.5L TSI SE Hatchback. How do you know which system your Skoda Octavia operates i.e Amundsen, Colmbus, Belero or other, the previous owner may have changed the Amundsen system to Columbus or something else can't find anything on the Infotainment menus.

Bolero has no sat nav function ;)

If you add a picture of the screen when it's showing the part number (system information) I'm sure someone could identify it for you.

O.K so how do you discover whether your system is Amundsen or Columbus?

On a used car, I'd suggest checking the part number. You can find it by pressing Menu > Settings > System information on the headunit.

That's just to rule out a previous owner having swapped the display ;)

One quick google later and I'm pretty sure that on a 2018 car, the Amundsen is an 8" screen like this:

000054802 SWAP voice control for the navigation system, Amundsen activation key for 360.00 € - Alarms & Horn

Where as a Columbus is a 9.2" screen like this:

Retrofituri si imbunatatiri Skoda Octavia 3 - Page 16 - Octavia 3 - vwForum.ro

As I say, feel free to post a picture, ideally showing the part number to confirm :)

Thanks, according to your images I have the Amundsen 8", I'll try to get the Skoda Portal update and try to update my current SD card.

As an FYI, the Skoda maps tend to lag behind the VW releases.

The latest full Europe maps for a MIB2 Amundsen (aka Discover Media) are these: http://navigation-maps.volkswagen.com/vw-maps/DiscoverMedia2_EU-AS_1520_V13.7z

You just need to download them and extract to the SD card, it's pretty tight on a 16GB card so make sure it's freshly formatted (fat32) with a 4k cluster size :)

There are a few other choices if you want a smaller download/mapping area:

It looks as though I've sorted the map data problem thanks to you guys.

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive android mobile phone (possibly pay as you go) that will connect seamlessly to my Skoda Octavia 2018, my old phone will not connect. I use my mobile phone mainly for break down emergencies i.e AA, RAC or Greenflag so I don't use it a lot, but I would like to be able to phone or recieve calls from my family from the car.  I probably may want to use the phones Sat nav as sometimes these can be better than the in car sat nav, music via blutooth possibly but very little else.

So what was the issue in the end?

Any phone should connect to the car as it's done via bluetooth, so unless you have an ancient phone without bluetooth then it should connect. Or do you want to use Android Auto ?

My phone is a really old Nokia and it will not connect, so I'm looking for a newer cheap phone that works, Skoda's compatability list shows quite a lot but I just wondered if any one who also drives a Skoda Octavia 2018 has a recommendation, I've heard that Android Auto is better than Apple Play.

Personally I'm a fan of the Samsung Galaxy S-series, just buy the highest number one you can afford or want to pay for, currently using a S7, I think S10 is the latest one.

Between me and the missus we've had Samsung S7, S8, Sony Ericsson and Huawei P30 phones and all have worked on my 2015 car and her 2019 car.

Thanks, that's a great help I was a bit confused with the Skoda compatability list as it doesn't show the S10 or higher.
