Head unit in 2015 Yeti - which wires do what?

Featured Replies

I'd like to upgrade a RCD330 197b NONAME head unit and I'm trying to figure out if it will work.

Does anyone know which wires do what in this picture?

I think the white, double one is the antenna, sure about the other colours (blue, yellow, black ).

My mistake.  New, replacement unit is called "6RD 035 187B NONAME"

Fakra connectors are as follows:

- black DAB (at least in the UK, not sure about Australia)

- blue GPS

- white AM/FM and FM (for diversity)

- yellow USB

You seem to have a 52 pin quadlock and the RCD330 has a 40 pin quadlock so you'll need a quadlock adaptor. You'll also need an adaptor for the white double fakra as the RCD330 only uses a single AM/FM input. The other fakra connectors will not be used :)

Out of curiosity, why are look planning to fit an RCD330, the wiring looks like like you have a MIB Amundsen which is a much better headunit. At a guess, is it a pre May 2015 model that only supports mirrorlink rather than smartlink?

@langers2k - Thanks for the response I was hoping that there'd be an easy way to get CarPlay on the display. I'm sensing that that this is not the way :O(

Is there a better way.  I do have the RCD330 unit but I can resell it if necessary.

The new RCD330 unit came with 2 adapters.  One for the rear camera, and one for the antenna so I think I'm set.  I don't really use the radio for the most part so losing DAB doesn't worry me.

The Aliexpress seller indicated I should get this too.  Is this similar to the Quadlock adaptor that you mentioned?

Cheers!

That adaptor looks about right to me.

When I used a RCD330, there were a few bugs that annoyed me:

- No RDS info for FM

- No alternative frequency (AF) switching for FM

- No maxidot support apart from incoming call notifications

- No climate information displayed

- Occasional volume issues

- Gets stuck in the 'voice' EQ losing most the bass

Due to my commute, the radio stations at one end weren't present at the other so when starting the car it would always play (loud!) static until Android Auto got started. I ended up putting an SD card in with some music to avoid this in the end. Given how you want to use it, you might find the RCD330 suits your needs so give it a try as you've already got it. The MQB/PQ adaptor should be pretty cheap.

Personally, I'd be temped to get a post May 2015 Bolero or Amundsen with CP removed and smartlink/carplay enabled. The Bolero may be cheaper as it has no inbuilt satnav :)

Availability may be an issue in Australia. Might be worth chatting to @pab567 to see what your options are, you might be able to trade in or sell the original Amundsen to recover some of your costs.

Hello, I bought an RCD330 but I need an adapter. Where did you buy yours? Can I have a link please?

If I recall, I made my own :)

Have a look on aliexpress for 40 pin to 52 pin quadlock adaptors, as long as it's the correct way round, it should be fine.

@cleverhans

Thank you ! I ordered it, should arrive soon.
