What leads for USB ports on new Skoda Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

Apologies if this has been asked before

I have a new Skoda Octavia (UK 70 plate) which is a really fab car and i am most happy with it (slightly over sensitive sensors apart!)

One think that I am struggling to do is find the appropriate leads to plug into the USB ports. This is mainly for phone charging (Android and Apple). Website info on this is scarce and confusing for a Luddite like  me.

Can anyone confirm what leads are required and if they can be generally purchased through electronics sites.

Much appreciated

Luckster

The USB port is a USB-C type, so any lead to suit your phone with a USB-C on the end will work - there are plenty available. (But doesn't Octavia support Qi charging like the MY21 Karoqs?) Alternatively you can use your existing lead plugged into an adapter in the 12v socket, or use a USB-A to USB-C adapter.

Many thanks Chris for the info.

It does on higher spec models but alas not on the SE Technology model that I have.

I have recently fitted a NextBase dash cam using a shorter lead on the mirror console. The usb port disappeared into the housing and I can no longer get adequate engagement of the lead.

How do I retrieve the socket?

The instructions are fairly similar for removing, but there's minor differences for basic vs camera/rain sensor types.

There's no mention of the USB connector here, so I can only assume this is correct location.

Removal is fairly simple, clips basically (take it slow!)

Vroom, many thanks for the diagrams, very helpful. The usb socket is item 5 on the rain sensor, road camera version. Using the NextBase lining tool I was able to remove the covers around the mirror stalk and ease the large cover over the camera. I was then able to re-site the usb-c socket using a small screwdriver, this was rubber covered and held by friction in a housing in the camera cover. Lesson learned: do not buy cheap cables off Amazon, the usb-c connector seemed too small and lacked the internal springy guides that centre the plug over the blade in the socket.

@NigelrsIs your fix still working OK? Seems like my USB-C socket has similarly disappeared into the housing and the opening is only the size of the metal make connector on the end of the cable, not big enough to accommodate the casing round any of the connectors I've tried.

After you re-positioned the USB socket was it close enough to the opening in the housing to get a male connector far enough in to stay put?

TIA

My fix is still working, I pushed the socket firmly into place so that I could see the end of the female connector on same level as camera casing. I fitted a 1m lead from Green and this fitted OK with no issues (i.e. it went fully home with a "click" )

Thanks - I'll have a proper look next weekend
